The Sony SCD-CE595 is a CD player offering playback of both Super Audio CD's, recorded in DSD format, and standard audio CD's. DSD(Direct Stream Digital) recordings use sampling frequencies(with 1-bit quantization) that are 64 times higher than the Red Book audio 44.1 kHz CD sampling rate. The result is a much wider range of dynamic and frequency reproduction, and greater fidelity to the original sound.

The SCD-CE595, mounted with a DDLOP(Discrete Dual Laser Optical Pickup) setup, reads both single layer SACD-only discs, and Hybrid dual layer SACD discs which provide an additional CD layer as well. SACD layers support both 2-channel stereo playback, and multi-channel playback up to 5.1 surround. the areas are accessed via a front panel selector button. The CD layer on a Hybrid SACD will play back on conventional CD players. The advanced servo mechanism in the unit allows for significantly improved track access and selection.

The SCD-CE595 is very affordable, and offers the consumer an alternative technology and recording format that bridges the DVD and CD mediums and expands the possibilities of digital sound reproduction.
