Close-up Strength for NL +4
The +4 diopter of this close-up lens is the right power for closer focusing with a 50mm lens (up to approx 1:3). With an 85mm (up to approx. 1:2.1) and 100mm (up to approx. 1:1.9) telephoto lenses, it is the highest power, and it should be used with the main lens stopped down to at least f/8.

The filter ring is made from brass, yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.

Note! B&W close-up lenses are available in different "powers" (diopters)

These lenses can be used individually or in any combination to achieve ultra-close focus
The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens
A +1 close-up lens will allow you to focus your lens somewhat closer than it already does; a +2 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than the +1; a +4 lens will allow you to focus even closer than a +2
A +1 combined with a +2 will equal a +3, while a +2 combined with a +4 will equal a +6, and so on

Best Uses

    Comments about B+W 58mm Close-up NL +4 Lens:

I bought this close-up lens to use on my Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens, a high quality piece of glass. The B+W name is all I look for when buying any type of filter for my lenses. However, I simply could not get a subject tack sharp even stopped down to f/22 and on a tripod with my Canon Mk4. The image would look sharp in the viewfinder and the LCD screen but was not sharp at all when viewed on a computer screen. This was baffling. Try as I might, I could not achieve sharpness. Is it because it is a +4 closeup lens? Or becasue depth of field is so very shallow? I don't know, that's why I shot at f/22 on a tripod. So I returned it to B&H and resumed using my Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro. Now that's sharp!
