A 49mm Metal Filter Stack Cap protects filters from dust and scratches while they are not being used. Simply screw your filters together, then screw these stack caps on the top and bottom. They're great for keeping dust, grime and fingerprints off the glass surfaces. Another benefit is that they keep all your filters organized in one place so you'll have access to them whenever you need them.

Comments about General Brand 49mm Filter Stack Cap:
Most of the "General Brand" stuff at BH works just fine, this included. I did not like the rubber bulge. It is for attaching to a camera strap and since I did not like that idea I ripped it off. It did not come off easily!
I like the way these store filters in minimal space and yet with high level of protection. Just be careful not to tighten them down too much as all filter threads can jam.
Also great for the back of fancy multi-element closeup aux lenses. They are easy to protect on the front with a snap on lens cap or supplied slip on cover, but the rear is wide open to scratches. I use a rear element of one of these sets.
The only thing this does not work with is simple diopter closeup lenses, since the front bulges out past the threads in many causes. But you might find a set you can stack and then use a snap on lens cap on the front since they are often somewhat recessed in the critical area.
Also good for the backs of special slim line polarizers that come with a slip on front cap since they often have no threads on the front. I find several uses for the back cover part of this set.

I prefer to store my filters in stacks that I might commonly use together. So a polarizer might stack with a UV filter ... How to store that for quick use? Use these caps!

Comments about General Brand 49mm Filter Stack Cap:
Filter stacks simplify the use of threaded filters. They protect the filters very well and reduce the bulk of the filters (the caps add little tickness to a filter; also, two or more filters of the same thread size can be stacked with the ends closed by the slim caps). Most important, on location and I find unscrewing the caps easier and safer than trying to grab a filter inside its hideous box or pouch.
Even if marked "general brand" some filter stack caps are beautifully machined and finished (especially those made by Kalt).
