I bought this card to cut up to smaller size I can carry in my pocket. Works great for on-the-go checking of white balance. Back includes instructions for those that do not know how to use a gray card. If you are new to gray cards, get this one. Price is right and it will be the best thing you ever did for better photos. It is cardboard so it is not durable when used rough. Respect it and it will last.

I have little experience with gray cards so far. Until now, i have simply used a white sheet of paper to set custom white balance, but I wanted to try a gray card, since I´ve heard so much about them.
This particular gray card is exactly that - cardboard with gray paint on one side. On the other side is a write-up about the "Zone System of Photography", which is probably very useful, as it gives information on how to use the card in various situations, such as "For Artificial Light," "When Using Daylight", "If the Subject is Very Dark", "If the Subject is Very Light", and "If You are Unsure of the Best Exposure."
There is also information about "Using the Gray Card to Determine Lighting Ratios" and "To Determine Color Balance." It all sounds kinda complicated, so I´ll have to read through it a few times and do some experimenting. Seems like the white sheet of paper method was actually a little simpler, but photography is about learning, right?
So, this is probably a very effective gray card, but expect to have to have a big bag if you are going to carry this around with you with you are shooting! It´s 8x10 inches of stiff cardboard that doesn´t take well to bending. I have a fairly large bag (Lowepro´s Specialist 85 AW) but the only place I can fit this thing is in the lining. But, oh well. Photography also seems to involve a lot of bulky equipment.

I have struggled to get an accurate white balance when taking candid photos in my home. The gray card was an inexpensive way to remedy my inaccurate white balance and I wish I would have bought it much sooner! I have not taken it with me to other locations and I could see that an Expodisc would be better to travel with. The price of the gray card, though, will make up for any inconveniences in carrying it around!

This gray card really helps me find the correct exposure needed for a photo! Sometimes there is too much light and my light meter goes crazy. By having this to focus on I can obtain the correct settings I need for my shots!

With the new DSLR's, shooting under a multitude of lighting conditions can lead to strange lighting and color results. To solve these issues, this gray card can be used to set your custom light balance or by adding the card to one of pictures for subsequent computer color readjustments using programs such as Photoshop and Bridge.

I cut the card up into four pieces and carry one with me everywhere now. Just snap a shot and set the camera custom white balance to that shot. The unexpected bonus was that it even came with instructions on the back for different uses.

I'm usually quite good guessing my exposure but during a shoot with an African American on a sunny day with a sandy background, this grey card not only helped with my white balance but helped me nail the exposure quickly.

Like that I can cut it in half and save half for later when the first gets grubby, but don't like that its not clean-able if it gets dirty. Its just basic thick card.
But there din't seem to be a plastic grey version that was this large.

It's a card. It's gray. Aside from that, there's not much going on with it. The quality was poor, but the size is good and it gets the job done.
