I personally bought the General Brand one for one main reason. I am working on a project to make a digital pinhole camera. To do this, I need to drill a hole into a lens cap and then apply aluminum foil on the other side. When I poke a pin sized hole inside the aluminum foil, I can then use my digital camera like a pinhole camera.

As far as a general brand. This one is made by Bower which is allready a good brand for accessories. The body cap fits the body snugly which it should and because of its plain face, this body cap is great for drilling into and attaching things like precision pinholes. I strongly recomend this body cap. the only problem is it doesn't display the camera well so if you want a nicer look, definetilly get a name brand body cap with a texture or design.

I actually bought this cap to use as a pinhole for my DSLR. It fits the same a the regular Nikon cap, but was easier to drill and sand down since it doesn't have any logos or markings.

This inexpensive cap works perfectly with my Nikon D90 and is overall much cheaper than name brand. Can't ask for more.

Cost less than half what the franchised item does. Missing only the logo. Well made. Fits. Keeps dust, etc out.

Why buy name-brand when you can buy a generic body cap that does the same thing? Fit is great, price is right, and this cap will protect your camera as well as a Nikon cap will. No complaints here!

Pretty standard. Works better than the plastic ones as it's much more substantial. Screws on like a lens, it doesn't just pop on over the opening.

Cheaper than official Nikon body caps, but they fit just as well. Definitely don't seem to be as well made (seem a bit thinner as well), but this isn't really a concern. Bonus: if you want body caps to demolish with the intent of making pinhole cameras then these are cheap enough to not feel bad about it.

It's very obvious why we have these and how to use them -- it's a no-brainer, right?! With DSLRs that don't have great sensor cleaning technology built-in it's more important then ever to keep these around and I bought this as an extra.

I'm impressed that this "general brand" fits so well and even though it's bland, it's price makes it worth having a few extra for all my bodies.
