The B&W 58mm Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) Filter is constructed from select polarizer foils and especially prepared optical glass. Kaeseman ("encased") filters are completely edge-sealed for maximum durability under extreme climatic conditions.
Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and varied by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
The reputation of B+W's Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make B+W filters hard to beat. These filters have a "heft" to them that is impressive. They may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

I bought my first DSLR (Canon Rebel XSi with kit lens) a couple months ago and I'm trying to get into photography. I had it in my mind when I bought my camera that I wanted a circular polarizer, but I had my doubts about their usefulness, thinking whatever function they serve could be replicated during post processing. Well, I'll admit, I was wrong.
Although I love the ability to turn the filter to vary the saturation of the skies, which can be replicated during post, to an extent, my favorite thing about it is the ability to cut down glare to see through glass. Most of my picture taking involves cars as the subject, and using this filter I can adjust to see through the windshield, rather than the windshield appearing as a glowing white sheet of glare, especially when the windshield is dirty.
My only real concern about using this was the possibility of vignetting, but it hasn't been an issue at all. I haven't seen any vignetting in any of the pictures I've taken.
The only "not so great" thing about this filter would be the cost, I guess. But, from past experiences with a variety of products, it often seems to be less expensive in the long run if you just spring for a better quality product in the beginning. In the case of photography equipment, particularly filters and lenses, lower quality products can negatively effect the quality of the pictures.

Not worth the money...
This filter works, but I compared it to my less expensive Tiffen Cir. Polarizer and couldn't really see a difference between the photos. It is hard to justify the price difference.

I am just starting out in the DSLR world and this was the first filter I purchased. It is very well made and does a great job. This will be part of my gear for years to come.

The lens has a very good effect (especially when shooting landscapes). My only complaint is that rotating the filter is not smooth, it catches a bit. This is a minor complaint in an otherwise great filter.

It would be nice if the ring had a mark on it so it could be dialed in when using a large hood on at lens that rotates when focusing.

I quickly put the filter on my 14-45mm Olympus digital lens and began shooting over the ocean at the cloud patterns. This time of year on Guam the clouds are building into some great rain- and lightning-makers and the Kaeseman allows me to capture the drama.

I took this filter on a recent beach vacation; it helped immensely. Also got great results taking photos at the zoo and aquarium. Still learning best uses. Quality is worth the price.
