Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. Hitech Grad ND filters are part clear, part neutral density (available in grades of .3 (1 stop), .6 (2 stops), .9 (3 stops), 1.2 (4 stops)). They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly. A neutral density .6-to-clear, with a two stop differential, will generally compensate the average bright sky-to-foreground situation and is also the most popular density of the series.
Hitech graduated neutral density filters are available with soft or hard transitions from dark to clear. The soft edge is recommended for wide angle lenses and the hard edge is recommended for normal and longer lenses.
This filter measures 85 x 107mm and fits the Cokin P series holder.
Neutral Density factors:
ND.3 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop)
ND.6 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops)
ND.9 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops)
ND1.2 (exposure adjustment = 4 stops)

I purchased this filter for a trip out to Arizona and it turned out to be one of the more frequently used items in my bag. I fits great in a standard Cokin P series mount and provides a nice contrast to your shots that might normally be washed out.
The one thing I did not care for was the packaging. The filter comes in a cheap plastic envelope which offers absolutely no protection from scratches and makes it really hard to keep it clean. The only reason why I mention this is because I've purchased cheaper P series filters that came in a hard case. I would strongly recommend a pouch or case, to ensure you protect your investment.

Nice price but I was very disappointed after all the glowing reviews on this site for this product. It may be a QC issue with their latest batch, but all 3 Hitech filters (2 stop and 3stop GND and 4 stop ND filter) had a pretty terrible magenta color cast.
I wouldn't spend money on these unless you can be sure that you're going to receive one that has no perceivable color cast.

Comments about Hitech 85mm Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Resin Filter - Soft Edge - for Cokin P:
I purchased this filter after spending hours reading reviews on different filters. Basically, you can go really expensive and purchase a "Lee" filter, or you can go cheap and get a "Cokin" or "Hitech" filter. From what I read, the Cokin has issues with adding some color to the images, and Hitech had almost no complaints in that regard. I went with the Hitech and am very pleased. My images have turned out sharp, and I don't see any signs of any color deterioration, or any extra hues. The only thing I can think of that would be a problem is the case it comes in. It's more of a packaging. You will need to purchase a filter holder to keep in your bag for it. Also, you will want to purchase a Cokin size "P" filter holder (or mount) if you want this filter attached to the front of your lense. As someone who is very picky (many call me OCD), I'm very glad I purchased this filter!

This is a good piece of resin soft edge grad filter of 0.6 (two stop) and works great for what it is intended for. It saves a lot of my post processing time after taking the image. I use it as hand hold and I do not have any issue with that. Highly recommended.

This is the first Graduated ND filter I have used and so far it has helped produce the images I wanted in a Landscape photo. I haven't noticed any color cast and it is really cheap for the quality.

A 'must-have' item when shooting landscapes, I wish I had bought one of these for myself much earlier on in my foray into photography. I used it recently on a trip to the desert and it saved many of my images from being partly over-exposed. The only thing which I worry about is getting scratches on it.

I saw a photographer using one of these by just holding with his hand in front of the lens. As I like to travel light it lite my light bulb. After some research I ordered this ND 0.s6 soft edge and tried it out this weekend. If you pay attention to the corner of the frame for your fingers, it works great. No funny colors it just did it's job.

I ordered this filter after doing a little research and I was very pleased to see you get what you pay for. It is a step above the cheap Cokin filter, and does not cast unwanted hues. I look forward to shooting many sunsets with it during my vacation this summer.

I find the 2-stop soft ND and hard edge ND to be the most versatile. The HiTech ND Grads are very neutral, only occasionally showing a light magenta tint (much better than cheaper competition.
They're fairly durable, but after hand-holding these filters against my lenses for a couple years they got too scratched to keep using. But they're cheap enough that I'm not bothered replacing them.

The grad ND filter allowed me to get great landscape pictures. The sky is blue instead of white. I was not able to get an even exposure on my fall landscape shots til I started using the filter. And the square shape makes it easy to adjust the graduated area.

Buy this for your Cokin P holder and never worry about color shift from your grad again. The price is right, much more reasonable that the singh-ray, so if I drop it off a cliff or scratch it, no worries. Buy two so if you do ruin one you'll have a back-up - [...]

It prevents overexposing a bright blue sky in landscape photography. Works beautifully. Only problem I had was, when attached to my 16-35mm ultra wide angle zoom, the Cokin adapter shows up along the edges of photo. You will need to crop your photo's to avoid the dark edges. [...]Product was ok.

It works as advertised and is well calibrated to 2 stops. I find the Hitech filters to be excellent quality and worth a bit more than the cheaper, crappier Cokin ones.
