B&W 49mm Linear Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Glass Filter - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
Note! Linear polarizers are used with most video and manual focus photo cameras. They are not recommended for auto-focus SLR cameras

It is hard to judge how effective any filter is without doing side-by-side comparisons. I can say, though, that the the B+W linear polarizer has a clear effect on photos of skies, water, and other reflective surfaces (particularly, at certain angles). It is great to reduce reflections and glare, increase contrast, and darken blue skies. It has no impact that I can perceive on the color (i.e., it does not seem to introduce any color casts).
