Shot a wedding using this and seemed to work. Still had shadows some places but they weren't as harsh. Fits pretty loose on the flash. Only complaint is the loose fit and it is just a piece of plastic with two strips of velcro for mounting. Quite over priced for what you get but is a cheaper alternative overall.

I take photographs professionally at different kinds of events. The "shell" is very dificult to transport and it isn't even all that great. There are better products to bounce the flash, so I returned this.

Allow quick shoot. Attached to the flash horizontally to the right, no adjustment necessary changing from portrait to landscape. No reflections from eye glass(es). No harsh shadow(s). Belongs to every camera bag.

I was recommended this by another photographer at a wedding, but thought it looked dorky. I tried some other on flash light bouncers, and finally decided to try this one... WOW it really softens shadow areas.... it is definitely not an attractive looking part of your equipment, but i must say it really enhances your photo quality.

FYI - someone mentioned it did not work with the Canon 580 EX II, but i attached it to mine without an issue (i did purchase 1" X 14" velcro straps to avoid having to "glue" the velcro on)

I am thrilled with the images I have taken and the lighting that this produces, it is easy to use. I had to play with it a bit to get the velcro to stay together on the flash, but that was a minor inconvenience, the shell itself helps me to get the lighting I was hoping to achieve.

I had been using LumiQuest MIDI BOUNCER until I saw "THE SHELL" being used by a fellow photographer. I immediately ordered the item from B&H and have been using it ever since.

Being able to use in portrait or landscape view makes this item a "MUST HAVE" for all flash users.

No more hot spots...just great flash photos!

Great for use with a bounce flash when the ceilings are low or a dark color. Creates nice soft light.
Works well up to about 15 feet away- best about 8-10 feet. Absolutely a great addition to my equipment list.
only drawback is that it takes up a lot of room in your gear bag.

I bought this a while back, and use it often, its the one piece thats always attached, for one main reason, ease of use. There is no flash bracket needed, no adjusting the flash head for portrait or vertical shots. Its one of those pieces everyone always asks me about. The shots come out great, nice even lighting. One trick also to soften the light even more is to cut out a white stocking and slide it over. (not pretty but works great). The only thing Ive found a problem is that since its hard plastic it cant be folded flat for easy transport. (no biggie). Also throw a rubber band on the base, and your good to go jumping and bouncing around with out it moving at all. This blows away all those other light modifers for flash that ive used so far. Highly recommend. (just read the instruction on distance and youll have no problems).

I purchased this somewhat ugly looking piece of equipment after shooting several other bounce and bounce/diffusion products, shot about 800 pics at a wedding and was amazed at the tonal quality that this produced. The flesh tones were exceptional. Although the one cavat that I warn against is staying within 15 feet or so as directed on the packaging. Of course, like many, I like to test the limitations of my equipment. This is certainly the one to replace the flash bracket and it weighs virtually nothing. I highly recommend this, as even the verticals (portrait style) are great. It is definitely worth checking out. It certainly lightens the load for us aging pros.

Problems Encountered: I placed a rubber band around the base of the unit to keep it from sliding. Other than that ( a minor issue), nothing.
