Comments about Cullmann Touring Set:
I got this back when I used to shoot a lot more, and thus used a tripod more often. I don't use a tripod that often with digital, but when I do this is a pretty good set. To be honest I have mostly used the tripod and ground spike. The ground spike can be reversed and stored in the center shaft of the tripod to save space. The clamp seems like a good idea, just haven't used it much. Sure, there are much better, bigger, and more sturdy tripods. For a mid-size camera (think Nikon F100, D90, etc), this is a great travel tripod. It has twist leg locks which is a bit of a pain, but it's very small and light and can be carried in a backpack. For the size, it's pretty stable. It doesn't get to the full height of a full size tripod, but for travel work it doesn't need to. Why carry a big tripod around to use it for 5% of your shots? If you use a tripod for everything, this is not for you. If you use one now and again for long exposures, etc, this is great. I've gotten great results using this for long exposures just after sundown, but I don't normally extend the tripod 100%. Add a Manfrotto QR plate, and you're in great shape. I would recommend this, I take it on trips. I don't carry it everywhere, but when I go out in the evening or early morning I take it with me.
