A B+W 58mm Haze (UV) MRC Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs. If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection. A haze filter provides additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet (UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details. An ultraviolet filter allows you to correct for the UV effect to varying degrees.
A B+W UV MRC filter is an excellent general purpose filter since it will not only protect your front element from airborne contaminants as well as fingerprints but also help you get better images at high altitude and while on the water. Using this filter will diminish the bluish cast caused by the various atmospheric factors, yet, it will not have an effect on the color balance of your shot. No increase in exposure is required.
The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability. The excellent Schott Glass used in the manufacturing of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production. It comes with a solid 10-year warranty.
The MRC coating on this filter adds to its durability - particularly under less than optimal weather conditions. In addition, the hard coating makes cleaning the filter easier - especially when it comes to removing fingerprints or surface dirt. Moreover, this filter benefits users of digital cameras whose shorter focal length lenses are more susceptible to dirt and other contaminants on the front lens element.
Multi-coated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

I purchased this filter for my Canon 85mm F/1.8 lens which I use on a 7D (e.g. 1.6X crop) body. This is the most expensive filter I've purchased to date. My goal was to attain the peace of mind of having a protective filter on my lens without compromising image quality. I love this lens and it spends a lot of time on my camera body and is therefore at more risk of scratching, dirt, or whatever. I would say I am very happy with the filter. It has a very nice, high-quality feel to it. I have not noticed any significant vignetting or flares caused by the filter. I can't say that I've observed any UV reduction but I am not commonly shooting with this lens in situations where this would be apparent.
I am quite happy with the filter and will likely purchase B+W MRC filters for my nicer lenses in the future. They are expensive but probably worth it for anyone who is somewhat clumsy (like me) or will be shooting outdoors or in other conditions where the lens might come into contact w/ foreign particles. Also, as most folks know, some weather-resistant lenses require a filter to complete the sealing.

The threads on the filter could be a little better, it keeps wanting to cross thread when connecting the filter to the Canon EF-S 18-55 IS lens. I do not have a problem with my other filters cross threading.

Comments about B+W 58mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
I use this on my Nikon 55-300 zoom lens. I have found no distortion at 300% magnification, no color shifts or any other undesirable effects and it does not seem to affect exposure. The construction is very solid. I was using a cheaper filter that was causing issues. The B+W filters area a great value.

Comments about B+W 58mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
I've owned many different types of filters. The B+W filters are quality filters in terms of build and function. The most important function for me is that it protects my lens and seals it from dust particles. It doesn't add or take away from the quality of my pictures. A much added benefit is that it's very easy to clean unlike some other brands.

It is just a protective filter, but the expensive price tag + the build quality just give me a peace of mind... I don't think image quality will be any better with the filter on, but hopefully it won't degrade that badly!

Another excellent filter from B+W. I don't see any reason to spring for a pricier model.

Comments about B+W 58mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter:
Not much to say about what is essentially a clear piece of glass in a metal mount; but B+W filters have a sense of solidity that's pleasing -- as, indeed, they should for the price. But given the money invested in my lenses, it makes sense to me to equip them with top-flight filters, and these B+Ws fit the bill.
