The B+W 58mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

I purchased this filter for my Canon 85mm F/1.8 lens which I use on a 7D (e.g. 1.6X crop) body. This is the most expensive filter I've purchased to date. My goal was to attain the peace of mind of having a protective filter on my lens without compromising image quality. I love this lens and it spends a lot of time on my camera body and is therefore at more risk of scratching, dirt, or whatever. I would say I am very happy with the filter. It has a very nice, high-quality feel to it. I have not noticed any significant vignetting or flares caused by the filter. I can't say that I've observed any UV reduction but I am not commonly shooting with this lens in situations where this would be apparent.
I am quite happy with the filter and will likely purchase B+W MRC filters for my nicer lenses in the future. They are expensive but probably worth it for anyone who is somewhat clumsy (like me) or will be shooting outdoors or in other conditions where the lens might come into contact w/ foreign particles. Also, as most folks know, some weather-resistant lenses require a filter to complete the sealing.

The threads on the filter could be a little better, it keeps wanting to cross thread when connecting the filter to the Canon EF-S 18-55 IS lens. I do not have a problem with my other filters cross threading.

Some say, that nothing should come between a lens and the object. I believe however that good lenses need protection and found one in 58mm UV Haze MRC 010 filter. Clearly (literally speaking) a must addition to protect 55mm 1.4 Canon

No Fuss, No Muss
Does what it is supposed to without adding unexpected little annoyances; not something you can say all that often nowadays.
Very clear optics.

Comments about B+W 58mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter:
Bought on the strength of the other reviews here. Might be overkill for a Canon kit lens but I bought it planning to put it on a better Canon telephoto later on. Fits perfect, works just as advertised, haven't had a bad shot yet as a result of the filter. I do think multicoating matters based on my novice-level research into these types of filters, so I'm glad I paid a little extra for it.

B+W is great. Sometimes hard to clean but I suspect all multi-coated filters are the same. Microfiber cloth with a bit of lens spray works for me.

Takes great pictures with my 50 prime.
Construction is really solid.
Besides lens protection, can't say how big of difference it has made in the quality of pictures (but that's just due to my lack of knowledge).

I only had this filter meant to be as a protection but it does much more than that. My pictures even in brightest sunlight come out perfect. Once I screwed it on my Tamron lense it will never be taken of again.
