B+W 58mm Zeiss Softar 1 (656-1) Effect Glass Filter
Zeiss Softars are special lenses with built-in mini-diffuser lenses. They are the optimum in soft focus lenses. In comparison with other diffusers, the Softars can be used at any aperture for greater depth of field without changing the softness. This is very important in portraiture. Zeiss Softars may be combined with each other and are available in two strengths: 1 and 2, with 2 having the softer effect.

This is one of the most expensive filters I've ever purchased, it's also one of the best. Zeiss uses a special process on the glass which works wonders. The Softar 1 gives a very subtle amount of softness and highlights to the image. It is not overpowering at all. Works great for some of the shaper sharp HD lenses we are using nowadays. It takes just the right amount of edge off the image.
