B&W Zeiss Softars are special lenses with built-in mini-diffuser lenses. They are the optimum in soft focus lenses. In comparison with other diffusers, the Softars can be used at any aperture for greater depth of field without changing the softness. This is very important in portraiture.
Note! Zeiss Softars may be combined with each other and are available in two strengths: 1 and 2, with 2 having the softer effect

Comments about B+W 62mm Zeiss Softar 1 (656-1) Effect Filter:
I purchased this lens for my AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105 mm glass that is over-sharp for portraiture of elderly/aging clients. The Zeiss Softar 1 does exactly what it is supposed to do PERFECTLY at any aperature. The wrinkles/creases, etc. are diminished without losing sharpness. I love it!
