Highly popular wideangle lens featuring a large aperture. Good for casual snapshots as well as perspective shots. Floating rear focusing system corrects astigmatism and gives high contrast and sharp delineation.

I usually work with a 50mm f/1.4 USM, but the 24mm f/2.8 is just what I needed for wide angles at full aperture !
Already recommended to many friends.

I purchased this lens a few years ago to use as a sort of "normal" lens on my Canon 30D. For the purposes I used it for initially - landscapes, panoramas, some close-ups and interesting portrait shots - it does a great job. The lens is quite respectable at f/2.8 but really gets good at f/4 and excellent at f/5.6.
Recently I acquired a 5D and a 1Ds Mark II, and this lens still performs well on the more demanding full frame sensors.
Flares and CAs can be a problem at the wider apertures, and because of that the optional hood really isn't that optional. While annoying, these problems are fixed easily in Lightroom.
However, this lens does have some bugs, hence the three stars. Lately, I have been getting into event photography, and this lens, while it performs and gets shots, really is not that desirable. I found my images, even at f/4 and above, to be soft and slow. Perhaps it is due to stage lighting or poor technique, but I found myself using this lens less and less during events and trying to make my 85mm and 50mm lenses work instead.
So in short: this lens is highly recommended for landscape or wide angle photography in good light. If you're looking for an event or low light lens, this is not it. All in all, a good performer that works hard and gets the job done in general situations.

Exactly what I was looking for. I needed a lens for architecture photography and for small ambients. Very nice image.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I've been using this as an inexpensive "walking around landscape" prime for my EOS 20D and 7D. 24mm is roughly equivalent to a 40mm lens on a full-sensor DSLR or film camera - so it's a bit wider than a standard "normal" lens, even on a crop sensor.
With a minimum focus just shy of a foot, this lens is actually a decent performer as a closeup lens though the bokeh is a trifle busy.
Generally the EF 24mm f/2.8 is very sharp in the middle. Perhaps somewhat soft on the corners but nothing to complain about considering the great price. (Stopping down to 4 - 5.6 fixes the corner sharpness issue almost completely!) Chromatic aberration and vignetting are handled very well on this lens, especially when used wide open.
One reason I think it's so cheap is the lack of USM focus but, truth be told, I was actually surprised how good AF was, especially compared to my other cheap prime, the 50mm f/1.8. Be warned though, it will still "hunt" quite a bit in poor light.
Though it's an older design and a bit "plasticy", feeling, the glass is good and, as mentioned before, I think the price is great for what you get.

It's an excellent portrait lens (for large groups). 24mm is about the max you want to go, otherwise you get other issues. What I really wanted was the red line 1.4, but for the chosen purpose, this one works well for the price.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
All of my other lenses are L. I needed a wide angle and didn't want to spend the L price at the moment so I decided to try out this one. It's build is much like a kit lens. Plastic, loud, lightweight. The lightweight part is pretty nice :) It vignettes quite a bit wide open. Strangely, LR doesn't have a lens correction preset for this model lens. It's easy to fix though. If I didn't know an L lens brings to the table I would most likely LOVE this lens. But for me, for now, it's worth the money and doing the job.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
This is only the second lens I have purchased. SInce my budget is tight, I wanted to try out several different options before making my decision about which wide angle lens I wanted to purchase. I rented the 35 mm and the 28 mm and liked them both, but they weren't quite as wide as I wanted. I tried the 24 mm 1.4 at a workshop and loved it! This one, however, was more in my price range at the moment. I love what this lens can do. It is definitely a good value for your money.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I'm a videographer and I primarily film weddings. The sharpness wide open (2.8) is great. Distortion is minimal in corners. Body is very crapy, but I'm downgrading my stars because the price is way to good. I use this lens maybe 5% of the time so my life does not depend on it, but when I need it, it works like a charm every time. Just buy it and never look back. Think of an L price ($1,700) and this lens will put a smile on your face every time you reach for it.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I gave this lens a 4 star review because it is the cheapest option for a fixed 24mm, and there aren't a whole lot of other options out there. It works great for AF, but is not as good for MF or video. It is sharp with little distortion/vignetting. If you need a more versatile lens, go with the 24 1.4, but if you just need a basic 24mm this is your best bet.

Comments about Canon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens:
I am a rookie DSLR owner, just beginning to acquire lenses, so I may not have the keenest eye or skill/knowledge regarding lenses. However, I've been shooting landscape shots and even flower photos in my garden, and so far the pictures have turned out wonderfully. This lens will work very well until I can afford other pricier and potentially higher quality options.
