We bought this glass filter mainly for protection of the optics on our 50mm 1.8d. It does it's job well.

I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on a lens and not spend a couple dozen more for a filter to protect it. Every new lens I buy I order a Nikon filter with and as soon as it comes out of the box screw it on. There's no reason a fine lens should ever have a scratch on the front element.

I mainly bought it for potection, and it's doing its job quite nicely. It doesn't appear to have any negative or positive effect on the lens. Again, it's there for the peace of mind.

I bought this to go on my 35mm 1.8. I put it on when I first opened my lens and it has been on ever since. This was the first time I had ever used a lens filter. I've been more than satisfied with the performance of the lens, so much that I never even taking the filter off to test. And that's what I wanted! Just something that wouldn't get in the way and would protect the lens. Coming from a filter novice this was exactly what I wanted. 5 stars!

Great piece of security to put on the end of the lens so if it gets bumped, only the end will get mashed at worst, and I have had this save one lens in the past, so I will always have one of these on the ends of my lenses. I can take it off for a shot if I don't want the extra piece of glass there, but the piece of mind is well worth it.
