While this lens is technically not L series it is treated like one for good reason. This lens has absolutely amazing IQ even using maximum amounts of shift and/or tilt. Chromatic aberration is extremely well controlled and the lens is razor sharp, even wide open at f/2.8. There is a very slight softening and darkening of the image towards the edge when generous amounts of shift are used (9mm+) but this is to be expected and the results are extremely hard to detect. (I've been stitching panoramics often with a tilt) From other reviews I've read the image quality of this lens is superior to the 24mm f/3.5L tilt shift lens but slightly inferior to the 90mm f/2.8. While I have not engaged in a clinical investigation, the lens produces vastly superior quality to the 50mm f/1.4 USM, even at maximum shift with a tilt. The controls are intuitive, and well placed, I have not had any problems with lens creep even when I forget to use the locks. One thing which may not have been adequately expressed in lens description is that this lens rotates 90 degrees in both directions on the camera, meaning that you can shift in any direction which is equivalent to shifting on two axes. Likewise this can be used to tilt in any direction. I have used this to great effect to place a very thin depth of field exactly where I want it. I have used this to great effect in sports shooting and for general landscape shots. The manual focus ring is very comfortable and smooth, very similar to ring type USMs except there is no dead space (in USM lenses to prevent accidental adjustment). Build quality is excellent, the lens is solidly built, lots of metal, no plastic, depth of field scale is convenient.
Expertise: Advanced Amateur
Problems Encountered: Some times I wish there was more tilt, but often simply rotating the lens to a different position will give me the same effect and I end up not needing it and getting a better picture. The biggest issue is cost that said I'd do it again in a heartbeat, there is no substitute for the abilities that this lens provide, panoramic stitching, architectural perspective correction, reflection perspective correction, random stuff in the way perspective correction, broad depth of field for landscape shooting, narrow depth of field exactly where you want it, depth of field like putty in your hands. definitely worth it.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
I use this for tabletop product and portraiture. There's nothing like controlling your plane of focus, and the sharpness of this lens is as good as you've read in these reviews. Don't wait, buy it. Yes there is a learning curve, yes its manual focus, it won't matter if you are serious about your work.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
This lens is a great addition to a complete lens line up. Using the shift function appropriately produces very professional perspectives and alignment. The tilt adjusts the focal plane for an interesting use of depth of field in landscape, architectural, and portrait photography. Learn how to use it and love it, don't just crank the tilt and shift all the way to get your average 'hipster' photos.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
I enjoy using this lens on product and food photographs. The tilt shift adds control and also creativity to shoots.
This lens is a lot more basic than a view camera and it also does not yield as dramatic of results as a view camera

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
Great for table-top product photography and architectural photography. Shift the lens to correct converging vertical perspective lines. Tilt the lens to control depth-of-field. Easy to use if you read about how it works first. Must use a tripod, and not good for moving subjects or action shots because the adjustments are pretty fine. Lens has bad chromatic aberration (color fringe) in the red channel when shifted to it maximum setting, but it can be lessened in Photoshop with a few steps.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
I bought this lens to use it not exactly as it is intended to be used - for weddings and portraits. My first impressions: very well build, moderate size and weight. Don't like the way the hood attaches to the lens. It is very sharp wide open and the colors are amazing.
Shifting the lens for creative focus effects is not as easy as it sounds :) The lens is manual focus only, so practice makes perfect :)

I just got done using it for a wedding and pictures came out crystal clear. It is all manual focus and takes some getting use to, but after you master how to set it up then you can let your creativity shine.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
I bought this lens in particular for the added perspective control and I'm not disappointed. There is a learning curve, but the more you use it the easier it gets.
I'm also loving the manual focus. It reminds me of the many years I shot medium format cameras. The manual focus slows me down, which is a good thing.
Image quality is excellent. I've never shot "L" glass so it's impossible for me to compare the quality, but it is much better than the mid-range Canon lenses.
Though I'll never consider myself a video shooter, I have used this lens to film some live performance video and the tilt function makes for some nice creative looking video. And again the focus is nice and smooth for easy transitions.

i am a wedding photographer and wanted this lens for portraits and it is perfect. the auto exposure isn't spot on when it's shifted and tilted all the way but if you can deal with the manual focus then you can deal with manually adjusting the exposure.

Comments about Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Normal Tilt Shift Manual Focus Lens for EOS:
This lens can achieve really nice effects for architectural photography, but for me the real fun is in the "Tilt" of the lens. The selective focus is fun for just about every type of use. I used to shoot a 50mm lens most of the time, but have now swapped it out of regular rotation in order to carry this lens.
There are times I miss the auto-focus, but the added options far outweigh the need.
