I have a 580EX II, a 430EX and the 220EX. I love my G7 and now my G9. I have tried all three flashes with them, but the 430 is already quite top heavy and the 580 is extremely out of balance on the hot shoe. I only use the larger flashes with a bracket. Dragging around the bracket, off camera cord and larger flash is not always worth it. I particularly like to have my G9 and a few accessories with me at all times. The 220EX gives a good boost in power and coverage while balancing fairly well in the hot shoe of a G7 or G9, just a bit top heavy.
The 220 features are limited compared to the features on the 430 and 580, but the 220 is more portable and matches the size and weight of the G9 when hotshoe mounted much better.

It does what Canon says it does, but it isn't much better than the pop up flash. If you have a camera without the pop up flash then it's great to have the flash and not stand out in a crowd. Plus you can use the flash and not use the camera's batteries. I've ordered the 430ex, now. I need to be able to move the head around and and change the power output. With this flash I have to go into my camera menu to adjust the bracketing for flash compensation. I want the control. Plus I used to have a film system and I had the Lumiquest soft bounce on the flash head. That gave great results in wedding photo's. I will be getting that again to attach to my 430ex. In the end, if you have a pop up flash on your camera, you will want more than what this flash has to offer. Get something with more. You will outgrow this flash in a flash.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
I take photos of groups, usually indoors, and with this flash the folks in the back can now be seen! I use these pictures to make cards for friends and they enjoy seeing all who were in the group.
I use it with a Canon SX10 IS, which is not an SLR.
I wish it was a little smaller and lighter, though.

Great compact flash unit. Small unit that lasts forever with NiCad batteries. Use a #3408 Filter - RoscoSun 1/2 CTO - 20x24" by Rosco ( available @B&H ) for a warming fill flash unit for portraits, etc.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
I bought this flash to use with my older rebel xsi. It is just right for low light conditions. I like it because it takes up little room in my camera bag and is easy to use. Only drawback is that it does not tilt up.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
I picked this up after reading Ken Rockwell's review (plus the 1/4 CTO gel sheet) for fill flash. I primarily photograph people..."close up and personal." The 220EX works perfectly as fill flash for that purpose (especially outdoors), regardless of the lens I use. It works well indoors at reasonable distances, too.
Skin tones are slightly warm when the flash is married to the 1/4 CTO gel sheet.
Adjusting the camera's exposure compensation to a minus 2/3rds at the close distances I shoot gives me the results I like. The 220EX has a fast recycle time. It has a small signature, it's light, it's inexpensive, and it works...what's not to like. I am currently using it on my 5D2 and 400D.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
I was looking for a compact flash unit for my Canon SX10 IS that would work in full-auto mode as well as have some manual flexibility. I only use flash occasionally but when I do, I want a little more light than the built=in fill flash provides. This is the perfect unit.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
It is a great flash & commands a very good value/price ratio. Easy to use, its flashing power more than sufficient for general use, it has a respectable recycle time.
Considerably lightweight comparing to other (costlier) flashes in the Canon range; yet comparing to Nikon SB-400, it is slightly bigger and heavier than Nikon SB-400. Quadruple AA bank also adds to weight. It also lacks a swivel head.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
This flash was issued to us quite some time ago for our digital police photography. When I recently started purchasing my own personal equipment there was only one logical choice. I have been using it on a daily and nightly basis and wouldn't have anything else for simplicity and that perfect flash shot.

I am an intermediate photographer just starting to do some freelance and wedding work. I recently bought this flash for my Canon EOS Rebel and it works great! I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone starting out, who needs an overhead flash but isn't sure what to get. Does the job, is affordable and easy to use.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
I bought this to attach to a lightweight bracket for closeup flash photography with my DSLR. It works just fine for this. Also, I found it works great on my G-11 for people shots. One handicap is that I haven't found a commercial diffuser, so built my own out of some spare plastic parts. Flash output adjustable on camera, not on the flash, so it's simple to set up and use.

I was very impressed by the distance the flash carried. I was back a little farther at a concert and the flash worked amazing.
Great value for the price.
Thanks!

I am just an amateur photographer, but enjoying learning and catching some good shots along the way. This is my first external flash for my first SLR camera, so take this review in context. I like the flash, it is easy, reliable, works effectively and was economically priced. My only negative comment is that I cannot rotate the flash to deflect light, but I knew that when I bought it.

I have been a Canon Camera user for over twenty years. This flash the 220EX TTL works great. Sometimes a professional does not need a flash
that reaches out over a hundred feet, this smaller flash has exceeded my expectations for close up and portrait work.

Comments about Canon 220EX Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 72'/22 m at 28mm):
This flash is just what I wanted - simple and basic and very easy to use. I just wanted a good flash to use at with night photography. The built-in flash on my camera was not good enough for evening pictures. The cost was very reasonable and the flash does the job! I would highly recommend this product to beginner photographers.
