In addition to what others have said, this is absolutely one of the most "must have" lenses in Canons line up. I own several "L" lenses, in addition to Nikon lenses (with an adapter) and Hasselblad CFE lenses (for that system). This is the sharpest lens Canon makes, if I am not mistaken. It goes down to almost macro (with an extension tube it can), and has perspective controls. Yeah, you can do it in Photoshop, but why waste the time? I use this lens for portraits and tabletop and it absolutely excels in both arenas. Every client I have done corporate portraits for has loved the selective focus options, which look way better (naturally) than what can be achieved in PS. It just looks fantastic. Other raters commented on the heavy/slow/manual focus as an issue. Actually, with the era of HDR DSLR's, this is one of the greatest benefits this lens could have! With a very long focusing range, heavy-steady feel, and solid construction, this lens is IDEAL for shooting video - especially if you have an AC pulling focus. You cannot do that with most AF DSLR lenses. We have shot some TV spots for national clients and all of us on the camera side could not say enough about how great this lens can perform. Nor could the client rave about how much they loved the selective focus of the lens. Honestly, I should shut up and keep my mouth shut - this is honestly Canon's secret weapon. And that is exactly how it is referred to by us "in the know". Why this is not an "L" series lens I have no idea. Every bit as sharp as the Hasselblad 100mm CFi (which I also own). All I can say is THANK YOU CANON.
Only drawback: The T/S lockdown knobs sometimes stick. I get nervous forcing anything mechanical.

This lens is sharp! I am not sure why it is not an L glass, but it is just as good as one. Using the tilt and shift (and rotate) functions will take some trial and error, but shooting patterned objects like carpet or the fabric on a guitar amp will help you learn more quickly (for the tilt/focus). I am using it on a 1DsM3 and it is pretty easy to focus manually (since I came from the old school MF only bodies anyway). I use this lens mostly for portraits but will also use it some for food photography. You can imitate this lens in photoshop (narrow depth of field - straighten lines) but this lens does it quickly and more accurately. Time is money and this lens is worth it.

What I like: Sharp. Easy to use when you get used to it. Unique and versatile. Light weight. Excellent bokeh! Can take a front filter to protect it.

What I don't like: Locking knobs are small and might get stuck (metal on metal). Rotate button is small and can pinch your finger when rotating the lens if you are shifted. Would like more degrees of shift/tilt. Not weather sealed (probably not possible). Lens hood flexes so it is difficult to put on and take off.

Comments about Canon Telephoto Tilt Shift TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Manual Focus Lens for EOS:

I'll repeat the sentiments that this is a high quality lens in terms of build and image quality.

With that said this lens has specific uses and I would really consider those before spending the money.

If product photography is your main focus and may range from small parts to bigger tabletop settings, I feel the 100mm macro lens is more versatile and more of a workhorse. All depends on your needs and wants. The title shift will not allow close up detailed shots just like any other non macro.

If you like the spot focusing with surrounding blur, then the tilt shift lens does that better.

The manual focus really does slow down product photography as well. The causal landscape photographer may not care but when you have a lot to shoot then you will find this frustrating.

Comments about Canon Telephoto Tilt Shift TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Manual Focus Lens for EOS:

I bought this lens for mostly macro. Very sharp lens and fun to play with. However I wanted to rotate the tilt function to match the shift. You need to remove 4 tiny Phillips skrews to do this. One got stripped in the process and I couldn't get it out. I had to return the lens and I ordered the 24mm II version that has this feature that is adjustable without removing skrews.

Someone wrote that they consider this a secret weapon and I agree. There are so many creative ways to use this lens. Very inspiring.

Very sharp, beautiful colors and wonderful bokeh, too.

Very solid feel to the lens.

I have the 45mm TS-E but I prefer this. The 45mm is amazing but this is just a bit more special and for the way I shoot, more useful.

Comments about Canon Telephoto Tilt Shift TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Manual Focus Lens for EOS:

I bought this lens because my 45mm TS-E was too wide to get the effect I wanted in video portraits on my 5d. This focal length is perfect and with the 45mm I'm totally covered for my tilt and shift video needs. I don't use TS lenses for architecture or products, just video.

              Great build quality!

The tilt and shift makes it - Simply awesome and now my favorite lens by far.

Comments about Canon Telephoto Tilt Shift TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Manual Focus Lens for EOS:

I use this lens for architecture, It's nice to have, not to say I use it everyday but when I need it, I need it and it's great Canon has it in their lineup. If you need it you know you need it - it fills a rather specific task.

That said I find it rather expensive for being a design that came out quite some time ago. It is very nice and small however the filter ring is only a 58mm meaning you have to have a whole set of small filters just for this lens. Would be nice if Canon would standard some of these sizes - I would easy rather have a larger front element to correlate to the larger filters I have.

Of all the lens I have for architecture this model was last on my list, but it's useful to have at times. (but expensive!!! for what it is)

Excellent choice for macro and portrait photography. It takes patience, manual focusing and a tripod to really pull all of the quality out of this lens. No lens I've used has surpassed this for image quality.

Sharp. Sharp. Sharp. A superb piece of glass. Why I did not buy this years ago, I don't know. I have, in all my non sports photography, found myself focussing manually as I get what *I* want in focus and not what Canon thinks I should - so this lens has simply slotted into my modus operandi. Wonderful. As someone said earlier - buy two. LOL. I will - but the other will be the shorter focal length.

I intend to use this for product photography and architectural details - I cannot wait - for a book I am preparing on the latter.
