Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets):
The tonal quality of this is great, and the cool tone is great (if you like cool tone). just be aware that this is VERY matte. Like it looks like an inkjet paper print matte. Blacks can get a bit lost, only because of no reflectivity to create a void effect. Only thing that surprised me.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets):
I've used this paper with Dektol for a few years now, largely printing from medium and large format negatives. The matte finish offers beautifully rich and substantial prints although this paper requires some patience to work with. Shadow detail becomes a little trickier to work with due to a large difference between a wet print and a dry print (the shadows appear much more blocked up when dry than when wet), and so care must be taken to dry test strips and proofs down before judging the final print. Also, the prints are more susceptible to scratches when dry than prints on a glossier paper and extra care must be taken to preserve the print. I wouldn't recommend this paper for contrast lovers but it is a fantastic product for those who love the subtle, rich tones of a matte printing paper.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets):
When you use the paper, your photo will have a cool matte effect to the photo. It gives the blacks more of a charcoal look to it. I prefer a lil gloss over the matted paper but "to each is own."

This paper is amazingly beautyful to work with but every thing in the darkroom takes about twice as long with Fiber based

The paper is great. For a first time user, it is definitely time consuming to process. It is definitely better than RC, The glossy I've heard might be better, but I think that's a personal preference.

Pre soak the paper in water before you place in developer and it makes the image a lot smoother.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (8 x 10", Matte, 100 Sheets):
I used the Multigrade IV Matte Paper in my Photography classes in College, and all of my prints have come out flawless. High contrast, no shine or glare, and amazingly fast developing time. The only two downfalls I have found are the drying time of the product and the curling that occurs in the dry air, but that is bound to happen with any matte paper.

Use this for a photography class in which all final projects must be printed on fiber paper. This may be a tad expensive, but the quality is excellent. The photos really sink into the paper.
