As far as fiber papers go, this one is definitely top-notch. The tones are great and the matte finish is beautiful. A tad pricy, yes, but if you use it wisely you'll be in love with the results.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (11 x 14", Matte, 50 Sheets):
This has been my paper of choice for black & white silver printing for the last 10 years or so. I always buy matte finish. It has a great tonal range and allows for deep shadows.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (11 x 14", Matte, 50 Sheets):
I bought this paper in search of a silver gelatin paper that would have no sheen but retain richness and details in the blacks. This paper has great weight and a high silver content resulting in deep blacks and brilliant whites. The texture is amazing and prints have a velvety, suede, cashmere finish. 11x14 size slightly awkward. Great value overall.

This is great versatile paper. 11X14 is a great size for enlarging 35mm negatives. Let's you see detail without deteriorating resolution. I prefer to use matte versus glossy because it better represents tonal values when displayed with sufficient lighting.

I have to say that a lot of people seem to dislike matte paper due to the fact that they feel it leaves your photo print looking flat.
Denied! I really love this paper, I often go for a lot of texture in my prints and the matte paper, having no reflection, gives the print a real, tangibility!!

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (11 x 14", Matte, 50 Sheets):
I use this paper to print almost all of my black and white images. It has a beautiful range from white to a rich, creamy black. It's a reliable, heavy weight matte paper. Sometimes I like to wax it a little bit to give it a hint of gloss.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (11 x 14", Matte, 50 Sheets):
This paper is wonderful to work with, and I've gotten some really incredible looking prints with it. The one downside is that, because of it being Matte, there is a very fine line between your blacks looking deep, rich, and like velvet, or completely flat. If you have the patience to work with it and keep at it to get that right setting while printing, this paper is extremely rewarding. However, if you're like me and it's either hit or miss, it can be frustrating at times. Overall though, I think its a great paper that has time and time again proven to be reliable for me.

B&W photographer printers are not spoiled anymore. years ago there was a great choice when selecting your paper among the rich supply of Agfa, Forte, Kodak, or Ilford papers. Ilford is still there, the others disappeared...
B&H costumers are not spoiled anymore. years ago there was a great choice when selecting your paper among the rich supply of bags of different sizes, surfaces, widths, and quantities. some are still there, the others disappeared - and everything became so expensive...
SO, why I came here to by this Ilford paper? because:
- after years of digital experiences I decided to go back to my darkroom
- my favorite brand Forte is out but Ilford with its consistent quality competes with all the papers I used to like
- even if RC papers are easier to handle FB double weights has the "real feel" (and most importantly, not comparable to inkjet prints)
- it is cheaper than the corresponding Bergger paper, however much more expensive than it is used to be

Makes beautiful B&W photographs. Although you should avoid matte for nature scenes. It performs wonderfully with indoor lighting or nightlife.

Comments about Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber Based, Variable Contrast Black and White Paper (11 x 14", Matte, 50 Sheets):
This paper provides the details and the wide range of tones that every photographer is longing for. Looking at prints made on this paper versus r/c paper reaffirms the fact that in terms of quality, fiber is the way to go. Matte versus glossy is up to your personal taste, but in my experience the deep blacks produced by the matte paper are much richer than in glossy.
