If you have a Canon EF 50mm F1.8 lens you want this lens hood, especially if you're shooting outdoors, or in crowded areas (takes the brunt of impact from people bumping into your lens).
The adaptor is made out of metal, and fits perfectly with the 50mm lens. No forcing necessary. The hood itself is made out of plastic. The plastic is fairly thick and seems to be quite sturdy. One gripe is the release mechanism. It is hard to get the hood off and on to the hood adapter, it takes a bit of wiggling to get it right.
I only rate it a four star because it is a bit overpriced for a bit of plastic. But considering the price of the EF 50mm lens, together they are a great deal.

Lens hoods are very useful accessories to have on every lens. Not only do they block out non-image causing light, they protect the lens from bumps, debris, and moisture. This particular lens hood does not have the best design. This is partly due to the design of the lens too. The adapter ring for this hood screws into the threads for filters, and the hood clips onto this adapter. The hood has two buttons, one on either side, which must be pushed in order to retract the locking mechanism to install or detach the hood. It does take some practice to get the hood on and off of the adapter ring quickly. The reason I only gave this 3 stars is because the design could be better. The focusing ring for this lens (50mm f/1.8) is very small, and I wish that the hood could be spun to focus this lens. The hood is shaky on the adapter, but it will not fall off. By shaky, i mean that it wiggles around, and feels loose. The adapter ring is solid, and constructed of metal. Although it is not the best design, it still functions and does the job that it was meant to do.

Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
Great, effective shade for the price. Doubles as a nice protection to EF 50mm f/1.8 ll which some people feel necessary(seeing how the lens is of plastic construction). Very light, adds minimal weight to the lens yet feels sturdy. Good investment that can pretty much be left on the lens full time, no real need to remove except maybe during travel.

Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
the adapter ring screws onto the threads on the lens and then the hood attaches by way of four small tabs that fit into a groove around the adapter ring. two 'buttons' that you squeeze retract these little tabs for attaching and removing the hood. I'm not convinced this is the easiest way to do this since most other hoods seem to screw on with a quarter turn on existing lens threads. It's a little too precise/finicky for me but I'm sure it just takes practice. Small enough to store on the lens all the time but I'm in the habit of turning it around when not in use. seems to do what it's supposed to although I haven't taken any photos yet to compare to see if any stray light is blocked.

Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
Works as a lens hood should, but doesn't feel as well made as some of the other Canon lens hoods. The little clips that secure the hood feel like they might break every time I attach it on take it off. Also doesn't come with the inner felt lining some of the other Canon hoods have.
Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
Does exactly what you'd expect. I have previously owned a rubber lens hood that cracked with continued use. The ES-62 is sturdy and will last the test of time. It is compact and reduces flare and glare from light sources to the side.

Nice hood, easy to attatch, keeps out the excess surrounding light nicely. Also, takes on the brunt of the little bumps the lens might suffer without it.

i photograph mostly action shots in dim to no lighting. when im lucky stage lights are directed right at me. altho i fully understand the purpose of a hood, this 2 piece concoction is more pain than it seems to be worth {esp in the setting i need to change lenses in} it doesnt store on the lens nor does it go on / off with ease/quickly. just not overly impressed with the design.

This hood is a great accessory to the 50mm lens. It makes it look more proffessional and gives the pics a much better look! Took some pics with and with out and and the pics with looked much better! The hood also helps in making this lens look like a real lens, with out it is small and almost funny looking! I would suggest it to all. And of course ordering with B&H is the best, also fast and hassle free ordering!!!

Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
This hood comes in two pieces, a nice one piece metal adapter ring and a more to desire plastic clip on hood. All other Canon hoods are one piece, as far as I've known. This hood is the exception. The assembly as a whole has a good finish and nice tight fit on the lens. However, the tabs that keep the hood attached to the metal ring adapter are prone to breaking IF not handled with care. There is a tendency for the tabs to wedge themselves in the ring due to tight tolerances (which is a good thing) but the material used for the tabs isn't as durable. Extra care while handling should be all that's needed for the tabs not to break off. Aside from that, it's a nice hood.

Good hood, nothing super, but does its job. The hood can be mounted backwards on the lens for storage in the camera bag. The mechanism is a bit finnicky otherwise would get 5 stars.

Comments about Canon ES-62 Lens Hood with Hood Adapter 62 for EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:
I shoot with a 60D with a grip and I love the 50mm 1.8, but it looks so funny because its so small. This lens first off does it's job. It also fits tight and snug to the adapter no problem. The Hood snaps on and off and fits perfectly or store backwards great. The best thing about this Hood is it makes the tiny 50mm look a bit more like a real lens. It ads about 75% to the original size. Worth every cent.
