The Canon ET-60 Lens Hood is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

I bought the ET-60 lens hood for the 75->300 mm kit zoom lens bundled with the Canon Rebel XT I purchased about two years ago. Of the several lenses I have purchased for this camera, this is the only one where I get inconsistant results. The main problem I seem to have is that the light meter seems to think there is more light available than exists and results in under-exposed pictures. This happens more often at the 300mm end of zooming. I assumed that too much light is getting in from the side. I tried a rubber screw-in hood and that did not seem to help much. The Canon seems to help a lot, is inexpensive, and is easy to use. I think that a hood should probably be standard with all lenses over 100mm. I should have purchased this when I bought the lens. It is made of thin plastic, so care should be taken to avoid breaking it,

Comments about Canon ET-60 Lens Hood:
I thought I'd see a marked difference between shots with and without the hood on my Canon T3. Nope. I shot in mid-day sun at various angles with and without. It's not flimsy. It fits the T3 well.

I use this product to not only keep the light rays from entering my lens but to protect my lens as well. Considering this is the only model made for this lens, I can't really complain too much.

Comments about Canon ET-60 Lens Hood:
This hood fits really well! Easy to use. A little tight fitting over the UV filter I have, but that is not the lens hoods fault...my filter is just slightly larger then the mounting points.
Does a great job of blocking out light. I can see a difference right away. Very nice piece.

Comments about Canon ET-60 Lens Hood:
For outdoor photos in sunlight, this lens hood is essential for my Canon 55-250mm lens. It is larger than I expected, and I have to admit I find it unattractive in appearance. Much prefer the "tulip shape" of lens hood, but this was the type recommended for the 55-250mm lens. The hood appears to be durable, and is fairly easy to attach/remove. (I always hold the lens firmly while doing so). Once in place, it feels secure. The ET-60 Lens Hood does what it is supposed to, and allows for photos to be taken in situations that would result in sunlight glare across the lens otherwise. B&H's price was lower than the over-inflated prices on Canon's own website. Would recommend this product - even if it looks bulky, it really works!

Like the way it blocks out side light that cause lens flare.

Bought for my 55-250 mm lens. I do a lot of outdoor shooting and use this to reduce lens flare. Bought Canon because of B&H price and quick delivery. Fits perfectly and is heavy construction.
