This screen is an excellent help for manual focusing, especially on longer lenses. With the newer 1D(s) MarkIII series it is a reliable way to check or adjust micro adjustments as well - no more peeping at focusing charts: do your adjustments real-time in the field.
Downsides of this screen: you lose evaluative and spot metering, albeit the latter only for those focusing points that are situated at or near the center.
All in all, I'd recommend this screen to anyone seeking better performance during MF.

So far I have not been able to use it with my L series lens's. The screen fits in place, the programming is changed on the menu, but will not focus correctly in manual mode. In auto focus it always looks out of focus but the iamges are sharp. So I have set it a side for now. Open to suggestions.

I got this for my 1dsii for better manual focus and it works great at faster than f5.6. Use CW metering for best results.

I know the description doesn't list the 5D as compatible cameras, but I found a few DIYs online that put this in their 5D. Tried it. When in just fine, all worked, except...when it was majorly back focused--no matter what internal camera setting I chose.
Maybe this can be made to work with some further modifications, but straight out of the box, it won't. If you're looking for something like this for the 5D, I contacted Canon, and they don't make one.a

One of the big advantages of the EOS mount is the ability to use M42 and C/Y manual lenses, both of which I have an extensive collection of and prefer over many of the new EF lenses. This little inexpensive screen makes using those lenses a dream, and really I couldn't do without it now. If you're using manual lenses on the EOS 3 or a camera in the EOS 1 series, you need this screen.

Warning: On your own risk.
I use this focusing screen for my 5D2, yes, it is not made for 5D2, a little modification will do.
Now my 5D2 can focus manual lens easily (like contax and etc) without problem. Save a lot money if you have couples of other brands' manual lens (like me). A cheap China made adapter will do, let the focusing thing done by split image.
Someone said it will influence the light meter but I do not aware the different.

Excellent for eyeglass wearers to manual focus or to check auto focus, but there is a price. You do loose spot and center weighted metering. That is why I only gave it 4 stars. Other than that it works perfectly, you can finally tell when you are focused and what exactally is being focused on when using auto or manual focus. Well worth the compromise if you wear eyeglasses. Installation was a snap, very clear instructions.

Absolutely fantastic! Just like in the old days when using manual focusing lenses, and excellent if you need to do focus manually in low light
