General Brand Background Support System - 12' Wide
The Impact 12' Background Support System will support seamless paper up to 11' in width, as well as accommodate the 12' width of any brand of muslin background. Total weight distributed across the length of the crossbar should not exceed 20 lb.
The system consists of 2 heavy-duty professional support stands with 3 positive locking knobs and tubular legs, a sturdy 4 piece crossbar that snaps together with positive button locking devices, and a heavy-duty canvas carry bag.
It is suggested to secure the stands with gaffer tape, or weight bags when using any background setup where there are several people, or active children on the set.
- Strong support for paper, or cloth backgrounds.
- Crossbar may be used by combining some, or all the sections.

I ordered this because I wanted a cheap portable kit that would be easy to transport and use on short notice.
What I got was a great portable kit for a very reasonable price. The stands come with standard studs so they can be used to mount other items and actually go higher than 10 feet. They are also very sturdy and stable. The cross bar is in four 3 foot'ish long sections that take seconds to assemble. You can use 2, 3 or 4 sections to make a length that matches your backdrop accordingly. The holes at the ends of the cross bar are elongated more than enough to allow the height of each stand to be changed a considerable amount without binding the cross bar at the opposite stand. With my old system this was a huge issue. The included carrying bag is also very nice. Each of the stands and cross bar sections have their own pockets so nothing rubs together. A very nice feature for picky people like me that don't want things damaged during storage or transportation.
This little "cheap" kit will be replacing my current system.

I bought this background stand for an event I shot where I needed to use a muslin background. This kit is complete with everything you need to use it to support cloth or paper backgrounds (2 stands, expandable crossbar & even a nice bag to store it all in).
Upon setting it up I realized that is was definitely not designed as a heavy duty system. The stands are thin, although light in weight, metal. The top-most extension of the stands is so thin I wondered how it would be able to support the combined weight of the crossbar and the 10x20 muslin I was going to use. I had it set up for a total of five hours and when I took it down I discovered the top-most extensions had bent from the weight of the muslin. I then had trouble getting them to nest back inside the lower sections of the stands.
I would have returned the kit to B&H, but I was outside their 15-day window for returns. Had I to do it over again, I would have bought some quality heavy-duty light stands and the Bogen extension pole (#2983) which I suspect is a much stronger piece than the one in the Impact kit. I priced out the pieces I had in mind and two lights stands with the Bogen crossbar was only $60 more (albeit with no bag).
My mistake. Always buy the best and only cry once. A bargain isn't always a bargain, especially in the case of this kit. One positive note though, the bag that is supplied with the kit is a great design and holds all the pieces securely making it easy to transport to locations outside the studio.

I use this for seamless backdrops, 9ft usually. It's super portable and light, which is great. But, that is also a negative - light stands are shaky and some of the plastic covers cracked immediately.

I needed to create a safari theme for a tradeshow. I bought 2 sets of stands and wrapped them in faux vines & bamboo. Then I used "S" hooks to hang a "Survivor" like sign from the middle.
Can't wait to use them again... Probably in a photoshoot next time.

I got this as a B&H kit and am really happy with how it held up during a pretty intense picture day where I brought through 75 people who stomped all over the background it was supporting.
It sags a very little bit with a 10X24 backdrop, but didn't effect anything.
Since it packs up so nicely, it makes it really portable.

I recently purchased this backgound support system from B&H, and I am very pleased with my purchase thus far. I've used it once thus far for five hours of portrait photography sessions along with a very nice hand-painted nine foot wide canvas backdrop. This system is sturdy, and is easy to set up and take down. I would recommend this for anyone who does portraiture and who wants a good background support system.

ftI bought this stand to use for in-home photography newborn sessions. It is very sturdy and all the parts seem to be of superior quality. It is very easy to use and set up. It is nice to be able to set up in either 6ft, 9ft or 12ft sections. My only wish was that it could set up in a smaller section than 6ft. The 6ft footprint is sometimes hard to set up in a client's home because of space constraints. Other than that it is a superb product!

This is my first background stand and I am not disappointed! Very quick and easy to set up. Using it with both muslins and rolls of seamless paper with no issues.
The carrying case was a pleasant surprise. Seems very well made and makes it very easy to move, transport and store.
My only negative would be that you really need to make sure that the clamps are tightened securely, especially if you're using a roll of paper. I'm sure the higher end systems have an easier, more secure locking system.

Our band has discovered that it doesn't matter how many times you say who you are from the mic on stage...you need to have a banner. We recently bought two big banners for our merch display and as a stage backdrop. We bought one set of stands and liked them so much we bought a second set. So far, so good! The stands are light-weight, easy to set up and tear down, very compact, and set up nicely in tight spaces. Overall, we're very pleased and feel they are a good value. Plus, people are starting to actually remember who we are! The only drawback that I have seen would be that the set-screw housings are plastic. This isn't normally an issue, but unless this is heavy-duty plastic, it's only a matter of time until we break them. In order for the stands to stay at the desired height, we have to tighten them really hard. Otherwise, sections of the stand sink down creating an awkward situation on stage. A good buy overall.
