Comments about AKG C535EB - Vocal Microphone (Phantom Only):
I strongly recommend this mic. It's a huge upgrade over just about any dynamic handheld I've ever used. If you have a strong lead vocalist or even a set of backing vocals and you're still using the standard Shure SM58, this is a perfect upgrade.
We use this mic live on stage with a strong soprano / alto lead vocalist singing from the keyboard. Her voice has a lot of character with a few outliers in the upper range that brighter mics tend to over-emphasize. The presence boost in this mic, though, is perfectly located to bring her to the front of the mix without creating painfully shrill notes.
The isolation is impressive, especially when you remember this is a condenser. I have a very heavy-handed drummer in an incomplete enclosure right behind this mic, and there's no significant bleed to worry about.
I do recommend using it with a compressor like the dbx 266XL. It's quite sensitive and you'll loose the benefits of that if you're constantly reaching for the slider when the vocalist ramps up.
