The E1 Hand Strap adds security to hand-holding a camera, and was designed to be used only with cameras that have a built-in power booster or grip, or where an optional power booster or extension grip has been added. The strap attaches with one end to the eyelet at the top of the camera, and the other end to the eyelet in the base of the booster/grip.
Note! Only fits on cameras with built-in booster grip or with an added extension grip

Although I do not find it to be the "To die for" item like all the reviews state, and would not use this strap as my single means of carrying expensive equipment, it does add stability. Although I have dropped equipment very seldomly in my 27+ years of semi-pro and enthusiast shooting, I do see this strap being a help in maintaining one's grip on their equipment.
Also, everyone is whining about the installation... Through two eyelets and a "Let's meet in the middle at a piece of standard strap hardware thing"...let's get over it folks!
I probably just made allot of enemies, but it is not that difficult to install and I have my shoulder strap attached as well.
I do believe the Nikon hand strap looks to be more stable and will probably some day look into attaching it to my Canon as long as the two promise not to fight at night while I am sleeping.

This is a product which could be much, much better, but having said that though, it is functional and usable for what it is.
If you think of the term "Quick Release" and then think up of the antonym for that term - you then get a term which is good to describe the E1. It is excruciatingly time consuming to remove or reattach (and fiddly as there are pieces that come loose).
Why would you attach or detach this anyway? If you use a non 1 series DSLR and you want to remove or attach the battery grip, you will need to remove this strap first. It's very irritating.
On a 1 series, it's more convenient (I always leave it on) and one of the positives is that it can take the neck strap too, simultaneously.
The other problem I have with the E1 is it is not very supportive. It tends to be quite rolly (It won't hug your hand). It's almost like having a flat padded piece of fabric pressing against your hand, rather than something ergonomic moulding over your hand. This detracts from both comfort and the support it should be providing.
All in all though, it is functional for what it is. To get a better support otherwise, you have to spend much more for a Nikon AH-4
Recommended, for lack of a better option

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
Great strap to carry your camera around and take quick shots. You can use it together with a neck strap, so you can hang your camera to the side while you scout for a good location and then start shooting while using the hand strap. Extremely useful when you are working with a model or just a family member, because you can give the instructions and quickly grab your camera and start shooting.

HELLO I BOUGHT THE E1 HAND STRAP
ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND ITS GREAT,IT WORK THE WHY IT WAS SAID ON THE WRITE UP WITH THE PRODUCT.
IT REALLY HELPS TO STABLE YOUR CAMERA WHEN TAKING PICTURES. AND IS LESS CHANCE OF YOUR CAMERA BEING PULLED OFF YOUR HAND, AND DAMAGING IT. I HAD A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS WITH THE NECK STRAP GETTING HUNG UP ON SOMETHING WILL TAKING PICTURES. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS PRODUCT.

Was excited to get this since I dislike the long neck strap on my 7d. Not made out of breathable fabric so it makes my hand sweaty after a while but not a deal breaker. Wish it cane with good ins to strap it cause it comes loose very easily thanked you put your hand in it. Can't figure out how to make it stay very well.

Picked this up to strap on my BG-E7. It's a great, very comfortable strap. I removed the stock neck strap in favor of this. I love the way it feels and keeps my hand steady for shots.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
This is a must have for photographers that don't like the neck/shoulder strap. I find those to be in the way at a critical time. This product fits on my camera/hand perfectly. I don't have to struggle with a neck/shoulder strap anymore. Once problem with this product is it doesn't come with instructions and it's a little complicated to put on the first time.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
It does help holding your camera with one hand and is very reliable, however if you have a heavy lens and flash attached then it gets little less comfortable because the strap is very nerro and there is not enough cussion in the leather pad to spread the pressure. Canon needs to widen the strap where it presses against your wrist or increase/reinforce leather pad so that the strap would not be digging into your wrist.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
High quality, a bit pricey. I really have no major complaints other than when you attach this on your camera one strap goes on a camera loop and the other on the booster grip. This is fine, but to remove grip, let's say you don't anticipate a lot of vertical positioning of the camera you have to fuss with undoing this strap. Also, the other cameral strap must share with this strap and is in the way too. In my opinion, Canon needs to develop a quick way to add and remove this strap, perhaps piggyback, to the neck strap, which should remain attached.

I bought this strap to use with my gripped Canon 5DII. I was amazed at how comfortable this strap is, even after holding the camera for a full wedding day. I'm never going back to a neck strap for my main camera again! The main reason I bought the strap was to offer protection from dropping my camera without using a neck strap, but I was surprised by the extra comfort this hand strap offers.

I had one of these on my Canon 1DmkII for six years and it still looks like new with heavy use. It's so good I recently purchased one for my new 5DmkII eith battery grip, fits perfect.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
Before I bought this handstrap I would end up with fingers that were painful and sore after shooting an event. I knew I had to buy something to remedy this. As soon as I started using the Canon handstrap my camera felt so much more comfortable in my hand. It helps with my grip and I no longer get sore fingers.
The only con about it is it does not come with installation instructions but a quick search online and I found what I needed I'm an instant.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
This hand strap is a great idea but, it could be better. My main complaint is that the large padded area which is meant to distribute the weight of the camera across the back of your hand doesn't really do that. I feel like the strap that feeds through the padding is where all the support happens. So why have all that padding/material?
Also, like everyone else, I wish that instructions had been provided.
I'm definitely going to leave this on my camera as it compliments my Black Rapid setup. I just wish someone would put a little more thought into the design.

This hand strap is great extra security for the camera! I use it on a Canon T3i Rebel w/ battery grip, and it's much better than using the neck strap. It's a bit of a pain to get it to attach securely, as there's no instructions.

Easy to install. Will use for general photography to get used to shooting with it. Looking forward to using while shooting weddings.
Limits ability to reach buttons for adjusting settings as I don't have a large hand. After some use will figure out a way to shoot with it.

Comments about Canon E1 Hand Strap:
I like the strap, which I bought to use with a new BG-E7 BATT GRIP for my EOS 7D; it serves well for that purpose. Since there were no instructions with the strap, it took a while to figure out exactly how to attach it. I found some photos online that helped. The camera, while heavier and bulkier with the battery grip installed seems to carry ok in my right hand and it feels secure. Initially I thought I would get tired of carrying it this way, but this did not become a noticeable issue over the course of a grandchild's Lacrosse game. If one wants to turn the camera to use it in the portrait mode, the right hand must come out of the strap to get at the buttons on the BG-E7 battery grip. The strap then may need to be pushed out of the way of the buttons. Not a big deal... and I expect I shall become used to anticipating this requirement. I found I had to remove the neck strap to install the hand strap. Switching between strap configurations (if one switches between using the battery grip and not) takes a little time... not something I expect I'll be able to do on the fly. I am still getting used to the Battery Grip, which I think I like but I need more time with it to know if it is going to just stay on the camera. I have discovered that when using the hand strap, the absence of the neck strap means it isn't inclined to get splayed out if I want to set the camera down somewhere... say on or under a table when I'm seated there; I like that aspect. All-in-all, I am pleased with the hand strap.
