The B+W 52mm Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. The slim filters are specifically designed for use with wide angle lenses and are only 0.1" / 3mm thick. They do not have front threads for stacking additional filters.

Comments about B+W 52mm Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter:
It's a B & W, what can I say. Very smooth operation, fit and finish is flawless. Sure deepens the skies on sunny days and helps cut through glare around the water.

Comments about B+W 52mm Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter:
This ultra-slim filter is just the thing for wide-angle lenses, to avoid vignetting. It omits a front screw thread to make it skinny. The consequence is that a push-on lens cap has to be used. This is knocked off all too easily; I have already had to buy a replacement B+W cap.
The polarizer glass is typical of B+W's outstanding quality, plus high-quality antireflection coating.
Five stars, minus one for the not-so-firm push-on cap.

Lens cap fits over entire filter but isn't deep enough to stay on.

Comments about B+W 52mm Circular Polarizer Slim MRC Filter:
The filter is very good. I saw technical reviews and B+W Polarizers have very good optical glass and quality protection so I chose right B+W. I also have a 040 Yellow-Red B+W filter for the B&W photography. This polarizer has no front thread, but it's slim - and that is also good. Has its own cap. I use it always put on my lens. This is summer now so landscapes become very impressive when using this one!
