I bought the slim filter because the normal thickness version obscured the corners of images taken at 24mm on a full frame Canon 5D mark II. Neither the full thickness B+W polarizing filter or slim version can be readily rotated with the lens shade in place. For most landscape hand held shots only a few seconds are needed for the photographer to remove the lens hood, rotate the filter so the white lettering "B+W" roughly points and the sun and reattach the filter.
the only feature you loose with the slim filer is the ability to stack filters, a function I have never felt I needed.

Slim filter is of typical B&W quality - excellent. However, included push-on lens cap falls off easily, and the slim nature of the filter makes it difficult to adjust. There is also no clear indication as to the direction of the effect as there is on the standard filter. In the end I returned this for the standard filter as it suits my style more.

I mainly shoot documentary and corporate jobs but I do make nature photos on occasion for a non-profit. I used to use polarizers back when I shot slide film but fell out of it since digital. Many I forget what it can do for the colors.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I bought this to use with my Canon 17-55 EF-S f/2.8 and a 7D body. Excellent, absolutely no vignetting or light falloff. I read that the normal (non-thin) filter don't produce vignetting in my equipment, but I plan to get a Tokina 11-16 with the same filter size, so that's the reason I decided to spend the extra bucks and get the ultra thin.
I love the very neutral color effect, and it is absolutely amazing with filtering reflections or enhancing the clouds in the sky. Excellent solid construction and great feel to the rotating element. Optics produce absolutely no noticeable image degrading.
As with any polarizing filters in wide angle lenses, when getting a complete shot of a landscape sky you notice a blue gradient throughout the sky from left to right, but I've read that happens with all polarizers. The filter is very thin so I had a bit of problems at first unscrewing it from the lens. Eentually I figured the best and easiest way to unscrew it is to put the snap on cap and press against the lens with my whole hand and then turn it CCW. Easiest way to get the lens off.
I don't like the snap on cap which tends to fall too easy. This version doesn't have any front filter threads, so you cannot attach any additional filters on it. I didn't realize that B+W made a thin filter with front threads (but much more expensive) when I bought this one, I might have decided for that one.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
It is a great filter, I am using it on my 17-40 Canon Lens and it works very well.
I am giving it 4 stars only because of the push-on lens cap which falls off easily and i lost it on the first outside session when I was shooting from the high shore and it was blown away(?) by the wind and fell into the lake. :)

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
Although the price is disturbing, the optical quality and construction are top notch. I need a slim polarizer for use with a wide-angle zoom lens and this one does the job without any vignetting. The slip-on Schneider lens cap does not fit snugly, but a small piece of tape inside the rim of the cap takes care of that. The MRC coating is supposed to be great, but I have not had occasion to put it seriously to the test.

This filter is a must have for those of us who live in bright sunlight. When not using my GND filter this is the next one I use mostly during the day and also for sunsets as it enriches the colors. Excellent for water shots elimating the glare.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
Quality is top notch, very *very* slim, easy to clean (no smearing like the Hoya filters!)
Comes with a cap - which is good since I did not realize that my stock Canon cap would no longer fit as this CPL is so thin there are no threads at the front of it.
Works great with my Canon EF-S 17-55 2.8 (very wide).
This CPL is very light (weight wise) but feels super solid. Its also fairly bright - perhaps the brightest CPL I have ever used. It has a very minor impact on the light inside of the lens.
While it cost a lot - I get a nice picture with it - fantastic build quality. Good lenses deserve a good CPL.

Don't buy a cheap polarizing filter to use with a high quality lens; B+W polarizing filters have a neutral color and the MRC coating minimizes the possibility of flare.

Smooth, low profile, excellent optics, and has survived multiple mountaineering/bushwhacking trips that would have destroyed other filters... But there must be a better answer for the lenscap.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
This filter makes sky/clouds pop... a UV filter just doesn't cut it... you need a CP filter when shooting outdoors.
Fit and construction are first rate. The provided lens cap fits well (for storage... I do not keep a cap on the lens/filter when I'm shooting).
Adjusting the filter can be a little difficult when using a lens hood (especially a deep lens hood)... but that would be true of any CP filter.
I opted for the "slim" version as I shoot wide angle lenses (11-16) and didn't want to risk vignetting.
While there are lesser expensive alternatives, I'm very happy I chose to spend the extra $$ and purchase this filter. Worth every penny.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer Multi-Resistant Coated (MRC) Filter:
I have used B+W circular polarizers for many years on my 35 mm Nikon cameras. They are an excellent product, and the 77mm slim glass circular polarizer by B+W has been field tested on my Nikkor lenses and it works very well. The included protective cap for the polarizer works very well in protecting the filter. I highly recommend B+W filters.
