I use this simple bracket mount with a Canon Vixia HP S100 camcorder. I attach a light and a Sennheiser mini-shotgun mic to it. The new Canon camcorders feature a proprietary shoe, so attaching accessories with standard shoe mounts is impossible. This bracket solves that problem, and allows mounting two accessories at once. Highly recommended.

This thing is pretty sweet because it is solid and gets the job done. I use it hold a small Shotgun Mic away from the video camera to record better audio.
It has TWO hot shoes, there is one around the bend down from the top one. If I had a hotshoe video light I could put that AND the mic on this mount.
Also, there is a receiver hole inside the screw down dial so that you can screw the entire apparatus to a tripod insert without breaking it down. It works great!
The primary caveat I have is that this piece is awkward to stow and hard to pack. If it folded at the hinge, it would be indispensable.
One other problem is that the hot shoes are "pinched" a little too narrow and I had difficulty sliding the mic shock mount into either hot shoe. After using a large flathead screwdriver and pliers to flatten out and open up the hot shoes I was able to get the mic mount in. But the screws holding the hot shoe are not set completely flush and are angled slanted, so I am worried that wrestling too much with the mount will weaken it. So I decided to just leave the mic shock mount in this hot shoe permanently.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
Other comments are right -- it's a bit flimsy, especially with the screws. I had a hard time attaching it the first time, and the plastic started to strip. However, for the money, it works. I wish I could flip it so I could hold the Kodak zi8 with either hand, but it's not a huge problem. I also wish that the screw was long enough to use with a tripod -- it's not, so I have to be handheld OR not use the bracket for the microphone.
I needed this for traveling, so I didn't want to spend too much money on something that might get break, but I do think that I should have gone with a higher quality bracket (they're hard to find for my camera).

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
It definitely does what it's supposed to do, which is add two more cold shoes to your camera, but unfortunately, I cannot fit one shoe accessory unto its shoes--it is the Pearstone 1/4"20-to-cold shoe mount. I was trying to mount my Zoom H1 unto the side of the bracket but with the Pearstone mount, it doesn't fit. So now, I put my Rode Videomic on the top of the bracket and it works all right for me. Also, the shoes don't feel very secure to me, as far as how they're attached to the bracket, I feel like with enough force, they could come off and probably with enough weight too.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
Pros: excellent way to add wireless mic receiver, lights, etc into a standard camera shoe.
You can still mount onto tripod with hole built in
Has a handle that can be used on either side
Sturdy and well built
Excellent price
Cons: for cameras with a small stud there isn't a way to use it on the tripod without shaving it off
All in all a great product at a great price!!

The side grip is kind of short, but is OK. Bottom screw works great and in the upper side you have 2 places to attach lights/Mics/Etc.
It is a good accessory for the price.

If you buy this make sure you have superglue in your toolbox. Arrived with one screw missing, another fell out. Leaving me with only one of the 2 available shoes. I had to superglue the remaining shoe to make sure it didn't fall apart in case someone sneezed.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
Most camcorders have proprietary hot shoe attachments. If you need to add gear such as lighting you will need (in most cases) a shoe mount adapter bracket. It allows you proprietary shoe to be free for other devices that integrate with your camera.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
First time I pulled it out to use it, both the top and side shoe mounts popped out. The tiny screws mounting the shoe to the bracket strip out with the slightest torque - rendering the unit useless since the holes are stripped. Very cheap construction.
Also, it says that it can be mounted between camera and tripod. I took their word for it even though the picture made me skeptical. With good reason... it's not possible, at least with my HVX200 or any other camera I've ever owned.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
the only problem it has pertains to the screw to attach the camera to it. although it attaches the camera fine, the screw's tread does not fit a tripod mount. as such, one needs to detach it from the camera in order to attach the camera to a tripod... my only complain

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
I use this mount to move my mike back to prevent it from getting in the shot when I'm shooting with a fisheye converter. Works fine for that, also makes the handle on my camera easier to use since nothing is occupying the space above it while the mount is in use.
Beware that it can get in the way of the LCD coming open on most cameras, as well as being difficult to use on a tripod.

You are better off just getting the Canon microphone than dealing with this bracket. It's not stable and wiggles a lot. OR find a better adapter elsewhere.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
All the tiny screws that secure the shoes loosen up immediately after tightening them down. I remedied this by tightening them then applying a drop of crazy glue to each screw. It works, but the consumer should not have to do this on a factory fresh piece of equipment.

Comments about Bescor VB-50 Universal Shoe Mount Adapter Bracket:
I got this because the Canon Vixia I was using only had a mini-advanced shoe, so it wouldn't hold my mic mount, this fixed my problems. It screws into the bottom of the camera and then screws into the top of a tripod, only drawback is that its hard to use the hand-strap when you have this attatched to it.
