The 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical Lens from Leica is an aspheric lens surface technology for this long popular Leica 35mm M lens. Excellent sharpness and contrast rendition and high resolving power are the benefits of this new computation. This lens has outstanding imaging performance across the entire focusing range. Its versatility and all-around performance makes this a world class lens in the high-speed wide-angle category. Equipped with the 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical lens, the Leica M becomes an elegant compact camera. This lens is also available in a silver chrome plated version.

This lens has been updated with the "6-bit" coding, which allows the digital M camera to read this information optically and to identify which lens is being used. The camera can then (optionally) apply a "final stage" software based vignetting correction (for RAW images the lens used is simply recorded, no change is made).

Includes "6-bit code" which allows the digital M8 camera to identify which lens is being used, and also to store this information in image metadata

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

If you want to get only one lens from Leica, this is the one. The build is solid. The bokeh and color rendition is wonderful. 35mm is perfect for street photography. F2.0 is fast enough without spending double the money. However, it is still too expensive for this category. The focus throw is longer than Summarit lens, but once get use to it, it will not be a problem at all.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

This is the best 35mm lens I've ever used. Solid, beautiful images, great color saturation. AMAZING. I was using the much coveted "Pre-ASPH" version of this lens, AKA "The Bokeh King". The bokeh on the ASPH version is pretty close, although the Pre-ASPH is a little smoother. However, the ASPH is sharper, does NOT have any focus shift on the M9, and renders color a little better IMHO.

If you're choosing between the ASPH and Pre-ASPH for your M8 or M9, I recommend the ASPH.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

Yes, it's expensive as is all Leica stuff. You could buy a lot more glass from all the other manufacturers. However this little lens out performs any other for sharpness and clarity.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

The first six reviews for this lens are the highest, most enthusiastic reviews that I've ever seen for any product. But, it is true what they say. The 35mm Summicron is among the best lenses available for any camera. I've used mine on an M6, an M8, and I plan to use it on my M9 when it arrives next week. I'm sure it will make the M9 show its best qualities. It is a marvelous lens. I don't know, or care, how it does on optical tests. It models and brings a glow to subjects, especially human subjects, that is nearly unique. This lens is among the best of the best.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

The Leica 35mm Summicron-M f/2.0 ASPH is well established as a gem of a lens. This is a great all around lens that you can use for almost any type of photography, but it shines on the streets and for travel or reportage photography. If you enjoy street photography, a 35mm Summicron is a must have. It's wicked sharp, has great contrast, and has almost no visible distortion. What can I say, it's a masterpiece of optical design. To make it even more useful, it is very compact. On you Leica M - this is really all one would ever need. I can think of no downfalls except of course, the price you have to pay to acquire the lens. When it is all said and done, it's worth the price, and once you have it you wonder how you lived without it.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

I use a 35mm lens as my "normal" lens as I prefer its wider view. The f/2 'Cron is the best choice, in my opinion, because of its excellent performance under almost all circumstances, light weight, and modest (for Leica) cost. It is highly refined as it should be after all of the years of production of the "Summicron" formula, its functioning is smooth beyond description, and a real pleasure to use. Terrific results are expected, but it's always a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction when viewing the images produced by this lens. There are many "pros" and no "cons" in my view.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

I use this lens on my film bodies, for street and fine art photography work. It is the most useful focal length for 24x36 format; so much, in fact, that I need to use two cameras with their own 35mm Summicrons.

What's so great about it? It has all the qualities of a classic lens in all the right proportions. It has the right amount of sharpness and the right amount of contrast, so that the image does not appear "hard." It lets through all the right subtleties of color at all apertures. Lighting is uniform all throughout the 35mm frame. The off-focus bokeh is unmatched. It's as if you are looking at the scene itself; not through a piece of glass or fog. The 35mm Summicron seems to have the ability to render on film the atmosphere and/or mood.

There is nothing negative to say about this lens. I personally don't think there are any flaws in the design. On the M8, the 35mm Summicron is actually a 45mm lens. I do wish that Leica would make a specialized 35mm Summicron for the M8, because of the camera's 1.3 crop factor.

Don't just get a "starter lens" for your M8 or film camera; go straight for something that is infintely useful at any level or situation. Leica lenses are actually less expensive, because they hold their value.

Comments about Leica 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black:

The 35mm f/2.0 Summicron M Aspherical Manual Focus Lens (6-Bit) - Black by Leica is by far the most useful, small, light weight lens on the market. Even when shooting wide open there is no fall-off. It is perfectly sharp corner to corner. Excellent low-light lens. Can even be handheld at 1/30th of a second. I have found no faults with this lens except the price. But if this is the price you pay for perfection, then I would say it's worth every penny.
