The Beachtek DXA-4P offers a reliable way to connect professional audio gear to your DV camcorder and enjoy the benefits of using balanced audio. Two sources may be recorded simultaneously, and each input may be recorded on a separate audio track, making it possible to mix both channels individually during editing. Time Code feeds may also be input during recording, and the shielding, channel separation and XLR connectors are of a professional quality.
This unit will work with all camcorders (including Canon GL-1, Optura PI, ZR-10, Panasonic AG-EZ1 and AG-DVC10) with the exception of the Sony DCR-VX1000, VX700 and Panasonic AG-EZ30.

I am using this product on a mini-DV camera that only has a mini-plug input for an external microphone. By adding this product, I can add up to 2 microphones with XLR connections and have them balanced separately. The best part is this unit does NOT need any batteries. You can even use another input device like a wireless microphone that has an 1/8 inch mini-plug. It is switchable between mono and stereo mode so you won't loose anything. But wait... There's more...
Since the unit is mounted using the tripod mount, it has another place for you to connect your quick release plate. If you don't have XLR connections and you want them and you have an 1/8 inch microphone input - YOU GOTTA HAVE THIS DEVICE!

I love the compact design and the compatibility with my Canon GL1 and GL2 cameras. It is simple to use and allows me to connect two professional microphones at the same time to capture high-quality sound. The low-profile of the unit and the ability to mount the unit underneath the camera is preferable to the Canon MA-300 adapter that mounts on the hot shoe. My complaint is that I have had to purchase 3 of these over the past 10 years dues to problems with the durability connector cord coming out of the unit. (The last adapter lasted only 3 years.) The wires inside the cord have broken and/or "shorted out" (even though I am gentle with the unit) leaving me with only one channel of audio. The new unit just purchased has a coiled-cord design (like a phone cord) and perhaps this will resolve the issue.

I have 2 Sony HDR-FX1s and I have a Beachtek Adapter on both. They work pretty well w/o adding too much noise. Simple and easy to use w/o adding too much weight to the camera. The short cord is nice b/c it doesn't get tangled in other cables.

Does just what it says it will. No meters, but for this price what do you expect. Clean audio. Good way to XLR mics into a small camcorder like a Canon Vixia HFS-100.

Amateur music videos of Grand-kids and other groups
allows use of better mikes and better control of sound pick up
since it is a passive device no amplification or mixing capabilities , it may be over priced .

I used one input of this product as a direct audio feed from the sound board and the other for an ambient room sound mic for live performance video. It worked perfect for me.

Our organization has two Panasonic DVC-30 camcorders. I needed a way to take a line feed from a audio mixer with just XLR outs. The DXA-4P was the answer. It worked wonderfully right out of the box. I hope to purchase another one soon for the other camcorder.

I use this product with my GL2 for recording depositions. It's small and allows me to connect directly from my soundboard using 1/4 to XLR's and the 1/8 to the camera is secure. The only negative is that it doesn't connect to the base of the camera as sturdy as I would like it to. I will buy it again if I build another legal system.

[...]. Easy to attach to camera, easy to set up with audio system and easy to set a level. We use it to input audio directly to the camera for the main house console in our sanctuary. So far we are very pleased with the results and the audio portion of our video is far superior to using the camera's built in mics in our challenging acoustical situation. Would recommend you try it out.

My background is in audio and now have ventured into video. I have a Canon GL2 as a second camera for filming weddings, events and short films. I connect my Sennheiser wireless to a small mixer then thru the BeachTek DXA-4P and the audio is great with no added noise. This gives you better control over the volume levels with knobs easy to reach. This is simple to use: a switch for each of the two channels switches between line level and mic level attenuation. Also a mono/stereo switch letting each channel operate separately or as a mono channel. A very good choice for the Canon GL-2

I have a JVC Everio GZ-HD7U camcorder, and wanted to expand it's audio beyond the internal mics. with a shotgun mic. lavalier mics. or a cordless mic. etc. This audio adapter works just fine. My problem is I needed two mini jacks for my mics. and this adapter only has one. The problem is solved with a XLR to mini plug adapter for the left XLR jack. The lesson I learned is If I need 2 Mini Jack I should get an adapter with 2 mini jacks. This adapter is agreat device for recording concert audio.
