The Photoflex Small WhiteDome Softbox with its translucent white fabric is unique to Photoflex. Similar to a Pancake lantern by Chimera, the WhiteDome is a good choice for hanging above a set. It will give you an omnidirectional lantern like effect. The fabric used is rated up to 1000 watts, and can be used with flash up to any Watt/second output. When comparing to larger softboxes, the small size will give you a light quality which is more spectral with a faster gradation from highlight to shadow areas.
The 16x22" size is very portable and lightweight. It can be taken on location easily, and is ideal for small location ENG shoots when a high-key interior is called for. This size of box will make a nice quality of light for closeup head and shoulder shots when placed just outside the frame line.
The front face of the WhiteDome is sewn in place, making setup time fast. All that is required is the insertion of the poles in your speed ring and you are done. Direction of your light can be controled by droping sides of the skirt to suit your liking.

Used with High Powered Strobes (I use the old Photogenic Powerlight 1500SL but others work just as well), this can give you nice uniform lighting with little shadowing on subjects. Just mount high on a stand and you have the equivalent of a Gary Fong LightSphere with lots more range for event coverage, such as wedding groups. The results look like a huge but diffused omnidirectional light source. It doesn't even look like you used a strobe if you don't over do it and balance with the ambient light.
A Photogenic Light Stand with 19" Caster Base 8' Tall (mfg.#959346) works extremely well for making it mobile at events. You can also use a setup like this in tandem. I recently did so at a dance class recital and the results were extremely good with minimal flash distraction to the participants. One white dome at either side of the stage did the trick.
The size and weight make it easily transportable. If I could have one request, it would be for it to readily collapse. As is; this model (16x22) is small enough to transport on the average car seat.
It also works as a general fill light in the studio when using lower powered strobes. One of the best purchases I've made in photography. A much overlooked product for the uses mentioned! I have other Photoflex products but none as useful as this.
