SPEED RING REQUIRED FOR USE
A speed ring is required and not included with this unit. Remember to get the best type of speed ring for the light you are using. If you plan on using it with multiple lights we recommend the adjustable speed ring.
This is a Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Large Softbox , 36 x 48 x 25" (91 x 122 x 64cm) . Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

I personaly use this unit on my battery location strobes. At low light times sunset and civil twilight it fills without overpowering and I wind up with beautiful images. They are also very light so I can have assistants holding them with little effort. Additionally they can be clamped to all sorts of places you would never get away with a heavier unit. It is easy to pull diffusion and change modifaction to suit your needs as well. The only thing I find with these is they can be tempremental to get back in the bags..... ok any maybe they wear out a little sooner than other products but I really do enjoy using them.

Softbox has great quality construction, but is not 36"x48". It is 31"x42".When I call Photoflex customer service, they just give me the run-around and say they get quite a few of these complaints every year. The guy then asked me to write to his sales dept, (instead of him doing his job and relaying the message himself), to let the sales dept. know about the discrepancy. I call that being lazy and dishonest.Photoflex tries to cut corners on amount of materials they use, hoping customers won't notice. I consider this very dishonest and will never buy another Photoflex product again.[...]

Used mostly in the studio for large product photography and 3/4 length portraits. It is a quality made product that assembles easily (once you've figured it out). All in all a pretty nice softbox.

I mostly use Chimera medium super softboxes which are the same size as this one, but when it came down to buying for myself, I chose this because of the features and the price. The fabric might not be as sturdy as the Chimera, but functionally, this is identical with similar light quality. I've only shot with it a few times, but I'm certain this will last quite a while for me. No more running around to the rental houses. Great value here.

Great construction, definitely seems well built and able to withstand 8 hours a day every day of use. really lightweight considering the size. we have some "other" brand litedomes which are much smaller that weigh just as much as this and puts undue stress on the stands.

I purchased this softbox to use with my product studio setup. I have this box attached to an Alien Bee 800. I love Photoflex products as they are a great value, easy to setup and are very durable. I now have about 7 of these all different sizes and have yet to have one break or lose quality. Highly recommended if you do any product shooting.

The quality is consistent with Photoflex- built to last and affordable.
This soft box produces soft lighting you would expect from something this size.
It is a bit fiddly to put together at first, but the second go at it is easier.

I own several Photoflex products, and I've never been disappointed by them. This is another. It is well-built, but lightweight. This is my first softbox, so assembly was a challenge the first time. (Hint: It helps to read the instructions.) The quality of light is great, and I expect to be using it for a long time. Just a note, this a large softbox and it may need a heavy stand to balance it. I initially had it mounted on a light stand and it was a little tipsy.

This is the fourth Photoflex product I've purchased, and like the others, the quality for the price is great. It is well-constructed and lightweight. This is the first softbox I've owned, so the rods were a challenge the first time. (Hint: It helps to read the instructions.) The light quality is great. I expect to be using it for a long time.

I just used this for the first time for portrait work attached to an alien bee unit with a special adapter ring. It is easy to assemble however getting the rods into the ring can be a little difficult. I had some difficulty and I am a strong male. Once together it is very rigid and of very solid construction while still light weight. Comes with a nice carrying case. It is of good size for a group portrait. I also bought the grid for it which was easy to install and works well.

Comments about Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Large Softbox , 36x48x25" (91x122x64cm):
I love the price. Way less expensive than the Elinchrom or Chimera equivalent. But, the rods are not pre-shaped like the rods in a Chimera box. The rods aren't nearly as durable and strong as other boxes. So, you might bend or break the rods. The caps on the ends can fall off. The material isn't as substantial as Chimera or Elinchrom, again. But if you understand you're buying it only to use in the studio or realize you will probably replace it after a while on location, then this is great stuff. But if you plan to use it everyday and will assemble and disassemble it everyday, this might not be the box for you. I'd say save your money for the more substantial competitors.
It's not to say this isn't a great box or that it doesn't have outstanding light quality. It's all the same as far as the look is concerned. It's just a different in how well this product will hold up.
