A speed ring is required and not included with this unit. Remember to get the best type of speed ring for the light you are using. If you plan on using it with multiple lights we recommend the adjustable speed ring.
This is a Photoflex LiteDome Q39, X-Large Softbox , 54 x 72 x 32" (137 x 183 x 81cm). Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

I have the smaller size LiteDome Units and have been extremely happy with them. I ultimately returned this XL version because while I loved the light quality and the fantastic price point, the depth of the box was just too much for my studio space. From the face to the speed ring was over 40" and that just made it too restrictive when it came to placement. I ordered the ProFoto at almost 3 times the price because it is less than 30" deep and will fit my space much better.

I love how it breaks down into a compact case that could easily be mistaken for a medium box. Love the diffusion fabric the light has to go thru before getting to the last diffusion fabric... totally diffuses the light. Being white on the inside keeps the light soft, too. Being so huge makes it perfect for portraits and group shots, landscape and portrait orientations.

If you are looking for a large softbox, I would recommend this box. I am using a Bowens monolight and it works well. The box (with the monolight) is really deep and takes a lot of room. The source is pretty smooth, althought I can't compare to other boxes. Good for the price. Pretty easy to assemble. The box is kinda heavy because it is so deep, so your light needs to be torked down to keep from rotating down to the floor. Not a problem for my setup though. The adaptor could be made better (the ears seem like they're thin and might break). If they do you're done till you get another one. Might consider a spare.

This softbox is well constructed and works great for my needs. It's also not bad to put up/take down considering its size. Quite a deal, this softbox.

A nice softbox that folds small and is easy to assemble. It puts out good light, you can spend more and perhaps get some more options with other brands but it's hard to justify 10% better for 150% the price. I suppose if I were strictly a studio photog I'd go for the more expensive brands but I can't see the added benefit as a location guy.

I use this with a Profoto Compact 600R strobe. It fits the Profoto speedring, and provides a very large soft light source at a fraction of the price of the same size Profoto softbox. It is excellent when used as a background for high key photos. The only slight drawback is that it does spill a bit of light out of the back -- it's construction is not as robust as my Profoto softboxes, but for the price, it can't be beat.
