Matthews Sandbags come in a variety of shapes and weights. They are used for securing the bases of light stands and set walls. Many have handles, for hanging on hooks or risers. Some have two wings, to allow draping over light stand legs.
Most are cordura nylon, some are vinyl covered and waterproof.
Some models of sandbags are shipped empty, for convenience and economy. They can be filled with sand, or any type of weight you provide, and emptied for storage, or transport.

Comments about Matthews Cordura Sandbag - Empty, Black - Holds 15 lb:
What BenM said about needing an industrial sewing machine is true. Bought 2 of these bags and didn't realize it would be such a chore to seal them. They're durable bags...if you can get them properly sewn shut. In the future I'll get zippered bags or something I don't have to sew.

Comments about Matthews Cordura Sandbag - Empty, Black - Holds 15 lb:
This bag is awesome... if you have a serious industrial quality sewing machine to close the bag. I assumed it had a closure system. If you don't have a sewing machine or you want something you can open and close freely, Matthews makes another bag for another [$] that seals without sewing. I have used filled Matthews bags, but never ones I've had to fill on my own.I recently set up a studio for a local company and purchased 20 of the Impact Orange Cordura Sandbags that have a double-zipper. I actually bought a couple hundred pounds of play sand at Home Depot and about 40 freezer gallon Ziplock bags. (Ziplock bags to keep the sand from seeping through to supplement the double-zipper.) The Impact bags are less expensive and maybe not quite the same build quality as Matthews but if you're not using them all the time in really rough locations, then you will be fine with the Impact bags.
