Cokin P121 Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Resin Filter - Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed.
Cokin graduated gray ND filters are part clear, part neutral density. They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly. A ND.6-to-clear, with a two stop differential, will generally compensate the average bright sky-to-foreground situation and is also the most popular density of the series.
Note! This filter measures 84mm wide and fits the Cokin P series holder

A decent price for a useful filter. Appreciated the rectangular design over the circular filter types, as one can adjust the horizon line to any place, rather than having being forced to always frame the photo in the middle.
Although the picture of the filter shows the line between the different elements [even in the soft graduated model] as surprisingly hard, I was surprised how soft the transition was when it was on the camera. There was not a noticeable line at all, which was welcome when the subject presents an uneven horizon line.
Just make sure to use the manual mode on your camera when shooting with this filter, or your camera will try to compensate with an adjustment and render the effect useless [in shutter priority mode, the aperture jumped from 3.5 without the filter to 22 with the filter to try to compensate, and so the effect was minimalistic].
In conclusion, this product can save valuable highlight detail that might be blown-out otherwise and so if a valuable addition in certain circumstances.

Its a decent filter for the prize.
Does its job as intended.
Filter looks extremely cheap, almost like a cheap widnow of a chinese made toy bus... but the box looks more expensive then the filter ... in fact the box is made of really good durable platsic material and looks elegent. I think Cokin needs to spend more money on the glass even if it means giving cheaper or no box.
The filter definately looks rediculously cheap on my L glass but at the moment I am willing to spend only this much as I need to learn more about using filters correctly. Once I get good at it, I will definately buy better quality filters. I would recommend it only for those who have entry level lenses.

Comments about Cokin P121 Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Filter (3-Stops):
I simply hand-hold the filter in front of my lens. If I'm shooting wide at 20mm, I just press it up against the front of the lens to get full coverage. Otherwise, the wide-angle will go beyond the edges of the filter. It works great in stopping-down the sky, so I get great saturation and cloud detail. As a bonus, it even comes with a plastic case, which is nice.

The grad neut. dens filter is a great addition to my other filters and I have used it several times already, though I just got it.
B&H Photo was the only place I could find what I needed and the price was reasonable and the shipping was very fast. Thank you B&H, you guys came through, again!!

Cokin Graduated Gray ND filters are my favorite for the price. I've tried Hitech but was not completely happy with them. I guess I just expected more cause I paid more.....my bad. I assume I would have to make the jump to the really pricy ones for a noticeable improvement. (Just a guess)
But I don't think I would grab the expensive ones anyway. I tend to work fast(rush) and as a result my filters get abused. Cheap ones are easier to replace.

I used this product for the first time at a Nature Workshop at Olympic National Park and found it most useful when taking sunrise pictures at the top of the mountain when the sky was light and the foreground was dark. It allowed me to get the detail in the foreground & darken the sky. I hand held it which was a little awkward.

Amazing what it can do. I don't know why I never used this filter in the past 15 years of photography. Im planning on using an ND8 and a Cokin CP with it. those are next.

When you aren't a professional, or someone with deep pockets, it is nice to know you can delve into areas which are talked about from the pros, without always needing to pay the pro prices.
This Cokin filter is an example, it performs well for the purpose, and couples well with hobbyist intentions to use or learn better techniques through the use of filters

Comments about Cokin P121 Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Filter (3-Stops):
I purchased P121 because most of the landscape scenes have a skyline and what I need is to hold down the brightness of sky only. P121 does much better job especially for seascape. If you like wide angle lens and shoot sunrise/sunset frequently, this product is the must. I highly recommend it.

Use for color/light balance
Tones down a too bright sky or tones down glare off snow or water... evens out and creates depth of color... great for sun rises/sunsets, great for reflections... use grayed filter above horizon or turn to use below... Just experiment and keep it in your pocket. Even bought one for my sister...

Comments about Cokin P121 Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Filter (3-Stops):
Having used round gradient ND filters for years, it seemed great to have a rectangular filter that could be adjusted off-center as needed. The Cokin P filters do this very well. The N8 factor of this filter is excessive for most scenes, providing too much lightening of brighter areas. This is good for very bright high altitude, sky or snow conditions.

The whole cokin system is very well made and this filter is no exception. Helps a lot getting the proper exposure on bright sunsets. Only complaint I have was that it was filthy when I got it.

Comments about Cokin P121 Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Filter (3-Stops):
This filter is primarily for situations when you find the sky condition and the foreground vary dramatically in lighting. The filter allows you to correctly expose the foreground and not have the sky and background completely washed out. It is simple to use and renders great results. I still find situations when exposure compensation is necessary, but the shot wouldn't even be possible without this filter.
