Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. If you combine a Variocolor with a Neutral Polarizer, you can vary the intensity by rotating the Neutral Polarizer. For example, depending on the relative rotation of the VarioColor Blue/Yellow filter and the Neutral Polarizer, the reflections become either a blue tint or a yellow tint according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
This filter measures 85 x 85mm and fits the Cokin P series holder.

When I want to add special effects on a dreary day.....when you're on vacation , you have to put up with not so great weather and this filter is a perfect boost of color when all you see is grey.

What a fun little filter. Creates some unique effects without having to do any post-production. I'd say even creating effects that would be next to impossible doing in post.

The best [$] I have spent in a long time.Much cheaper than a warming polarizer and probably more useful.I prefer the blue effect for a dull sky. This filter is also well built, circular in a square holder.

Comments about Cokin P173 Varicolor Blue/Yellow Special Color Effect Glass Filter:
I use it yellow mode when I am stuck in mid-day or hazy light but need a bit of yellow to warm things up. The variable control allows dialing in just the right amount. I use the blue end much less frequently, but dull water or sky can be improved somewhat.
It is easy to over-do either way.
