I am using this step-up ring to standardize my filter sizes on 58mm. I have several lenses with 50mm filter diameters and one with a 58mm filter diameter. I'd prefer not to purchase two sets of filters, so now I just purchase 58mm filters to fit all the lenses (with the help of the step-up ring).
The Century step-up ring is fabricated from metal (aluminum is my guess) and is quite sturdy. It twists on and off the lenses quickly and easily. I've experienced no binding or unintended looseness.
