I have old light stands with 3/8" ends. Modern lights have 5/8" ends. The stands have all metal parts and work perfectly. I couldn't bring myself to part with them. the adapter works perfectly. The only beef I have with them is the plastic knobs used to hold the adapter to my old stands. In heavy use the plastic will break. other than that they work fine
