The Steiner 20x80 Military is their largest, highest-magnification configuration of their very bright porro prism collection. This large optic is meant for use exclusively upon a tripod, monopod, or other support, and while its performance in any light is great, it is in twilight that the 20x80 Military's especially stunning. The 20x80 design is a perfect choice for surveillance, but also is practical for use by hunters and astronomers as a substitute for a spotting scope.
The 20x80 Military has Steiner's revolutionary "Sports Auto Focus" system that gives expansive depth of field from 60 yards to infinity once set to the user's individual eyesight. It has tough rubber armor for both great protection and tactile feel, and includes standard peel-back rubber eyecups.

Comments about Steiner 20x80 Military Binocular:
Mated to a tripod, these binoculars will change your relationship to your landscape.
I use the 20x80 Steiner for long-distance observation. Under proper seeing conditions, I can pick out rough details of a lighthouse I know to be more than 100 miles from my regular viewing location. I am able to read ship names from 15-20 miles away. The amount of light these binoculars gather during twilight and moonlit nights is amazing. Image quality is remarkable. The depth of field provided by sport focus makes observation though a 100-mile deep field of view straightforward--just focus on an object in the nearer portion of the field of view and you know that fuzziness in the distant field of view is from heat shimmer, haze, etc. I could not be happier.
The drawbacks are the obvious ones: weight, tripod dependency, to some extent price.

Comments about Steiner 20x80 Military Binocular:
I have used many binos in the past that at full zoom, the lenses point at slightly different spots giving you a headache. I used these Steiners for surveillance and was able to positively ID a boat at 3 miles! I highly recommend these in low light situations and even in rain! I would have paid twice as much if I knew they were this good!- (14 year insurance fraud investigator)
