Comments about Cullmann 1006 Ground Spike:
When macro shooting, like to get low at times. Tried small tripods, bean bags, gorilla pod, etc. This spike just rocks. Screw directly in camera base or use a small ball head, handles my D300 with Sigma 150mm macro lens well. Takes up little room in case and sets up fast.

Comments about Cullmann 1006 Ground Spike:
I use this spike to hold a heavy shoe mount flash, hot shoe and small ball head. I do a lot of Arctic flower photography on the spongy tundra and I have found that a table top tripod and other attempted solutions have not worked because they are not stable enough to hold the tripod head in place when tilted 90 degrees from vertical. The spike is long enough to hold the flash head firmly even in the spongiest of tundra and allows the head to be tilted at any angle without tipping over. It also works well in the rocky ground of South Dakota where I do similar photography.
