This is an impressive case for the cost. Its outer skin is a tough black weave synthetic, has double zippers, two small vertical loops, and a long belt loop that attaches at the bottom; it is secured on either side with Velcro. The zippers have short woven ropes with molded buttons to make them easier to grasp.Inside the top cover it has elastic netting to hold accessories, and the inner liner is made from a gray synthetic fabric with a finer weave. It has foam padding that is firm enough to protect against objects bumping the contents--within reason. The bottom is double-padded, with a second, softer layer supporting the contents.I use this to transport an extra lens when I know I will be out on foot for a while, away from a car or anywhere else I can store equipment. I appreciate the fact that the case is designed so I can easily open it with one hand, and that since the belt loop is fastened at the bottom; loose or dirty Velcro won't cause the case to slip off. The only drawback that I can find is that there are areas with exposed single-stitching. Double-stitching would be better--especially with the zipper track--since rubbing up against thick brush or concrete walls will easily fray the threads.I'm giving this the best rating because it's well worth the money, and the stitching may be protected simply by relocating the case on the belt. If it was a $50 case--different story.

I bought this when I bought my third lens for my D40X and my AW100 LowePro Sling bag.
I have since been able to figure out how to fit the 3 lens, D40x, and SB400 into the bag without the use of the Lens Case 1.
HOWEVER, I will use this case as a method to hot swap lenses when shooting. The lens case 1 will slide into the slot on the strap of the AW100 and be right at my chest, loaded with the telephoto or prime, when I need to change lenses....
Fitment for the case is as follows for your considerations:
Nikon 55-200 VR - Fits with hood turned backwards/removed and at the 55MM zoom setting
Tamron 17-50MM 2.8 - fits with hood turned backwards/removed. Is a snug fit and I have the Non VR version of the Tarmon (not sure if the VR is of a larger diameter so wanted to mention it).
Nikon 35mm 1.8 prime - fits... sinks to bottom, but can be pulled out easily since the lens is narrow (sigma 30 1.4 may not work as well??)
Cons: Aside from the slot on the attual strap of the AW 100 bag, the other slots are not positioned exactly right to attach this lens case anywhere other than the front - which makes everything bulky regardless. Also the one on the opposite side of the AW100 Sling opening makes the entire bag cumbersome to use anywhere other that around your neck (ex; laying on a table to get the camera out).

I purchased this case to hold a 28-80 Soligor zoom lens that I purchased for Canon FD mount cameras. It is the perfect size for the lens and also fits securely in one of the slots in my Lowepro Commercial case.

I bought this for my Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 EFS USM IS Lens.
It is well constructed, the material is very sturdy, it is well padded, and it does not take up a lot of room in my bag.
Also, not overly expensive so a good purchase for me, all in all.

I bought this to use with my Tamrac 517 case (the LowePro attachment system is compatible with Tamrac) and a 2-lens set (Canon 50mm EFII and Canon 18-200mm). It was a good fit with either lens, though using it with the 50mm lens leaves lots of extra room. The padding on the case seems more than adequate and the construction appears to be of high quality.

The case fits the lens perfectly! It is padded well and more convenient than lugging around my large gear pack! I would recommend it both for the quality/price and the convenience!

Comments about Lowepro Lens Case 1 - for Compact Normal, Wide-Angle or Short Zoom Lens (Black):
used with my sony 135mm STF lens, and my sony zeiss 24-70mm. it is a perfect fit and that is what i wanted. at first i had a different case that was a little lose, and baggy, the lens was kind of bouncing around inside that i didnt like. snug fit is much better. i like to travel lite at times, with this case, one extra lens, and the dslr with a snug fit case for it around my neck or shoulder. i have a dust brush and some clean lens wipes in my pocket. Thats lite!

Great case for your everyday lenses. I use this for my 55mm-250mm canon lens and even my 50mm prime lens when I need to stash it in my bag for protection. So its great for any size lens you have. Lowepro always makes quality products that can't be beat.

This case is just what I wanted to schlep around my Nikon 55-200 lens. The pouch that comes with the lens does not allow one to toss the lens in the trunk and go or carry the lens around in the field. The fit is a tad snug with the lens hood (reversed) not not overly so. The construction of the case typical Lowepro -- well sewn and finished. B&H's price was great [...]

Everything was perfect but ended up selling the lens I bought it for and am now trying to find as good a case for my Nikon 18-200mm lens. The lens hood is a pain in the neck.

I like this case a lot though I took off one star because there isn't any way to label or color code the outside of the case so you can tell what is inside it. This case fits my Nikon 18-105, 55-200, Tamron 60/2, 18-200 and 17-50/2.8
