XP2 Super is a sharp, fast, fine grain black and white film. It can be used for any photographic subject, but ensures excellent results when there is a wide subject brightness range. XP2 Super has improved exposure latitude compared with XP2, and gives exceptionally sharp, crisp prints. The excellent highlights and improved shadows of XP2 Super give enhanced negative contrast for optimum black and white print quality.

Easy to expose, and has extremely wide exposure latitude
Easy to process; It is a black and white film which is processed in C-41 type processing chemicals
Easy to print; Negatives are printed on black and white paper in the same way as conventional black and white negatives
XP2 Super is a chromogenic film; This means that the dyes which make up the image are formed during development rather than being present in the film or added later
The extremely wide exposure latitude of XP2 Super is the result of the unique relationship between exposure and grain in chromogenic films
Type 35mm black and white chromogenic film
Speed ISO 400
Applications General photography but ensures excellent results when there is a wide subject brightness range
Process Procees in C-41
Color Saturation Not applicable
Grain Extremely fine
Sharpness Very high
Exposure Latitude Wide
Push/Pull Can be rated at EI 50-800

I have it processed [...], scanned to a CD and then I print on my computer. I use an Epson R2880 printer. It does a fantastic job in B&W. Looks as good as what I did years ago in the dark room and I don't have to breath the chemicals. One great film. I shoot only with fast Prime lens.Doug Albert,Houston, Tx.

Bought this film after seeing examples of it in LFI magazine. It is a fine film, it has good contrast and tones but I was surprised at the amount of grain that it exhibits. I thought it would be a finer grained film than I got from my processed rolls. I am going to try, again, the Kodak BW400CN film to compare it with. I like it but don't love it yet.

Love the convenience of this C41 process file. Lovely shadows. Easy to expose with great latitude. I did get some scratches and think it was the processor. Seems easy to scratch but I'm a new user and haven't used very long.

Finding my love for (B&W)film photography again after using digital in the past I was happy to find this film still on offer. It has a wide exposure latitude, can be developed in any color lab and another huge advantage: ICE and/or other dust and scratch removal functions work perfectly during scanning process. Tonal range is nice as well.

                  Comments about Ilford XP-2 Super 135-36 B&W (Chromogenic C-41) Print Film (ISO-400):

The Kodak chromogenic B&W film is pretty impressive, but having shot both I think this one from Ilford has slightly better tones. If you've never shot chromogenic film, give it a try - it does things no digital sensor can accomplish, and can be developed by any minilab (or at home with the Tetenal C-41 kit).

Great film, forgiving ISO, I often have it processed at walgreens with great results but I am careful which tech is on duty. I have taken many great shots with this film over the last 20 or so years.

I was in Manhattan for 10 days with my old Kodak Retina IIa -- a great old German-made 35mm camera from the '50s. I wanted to shoot film, but I didn't have convenient access to my darkroom, so I went down to B&H and bought three rolls of XP-2 Super. The results, as developed at a [...] drug store's one-hour photo lab, were supurb! Wide latitude, so it was easy to shoot without a meter. Great looking grain in low-light settings, yet very sharp in brighter light! I can not wait to print enlargements in my own darkroom.

                            Comments about Ilford XP-2 Super 135-36 B&W (Chromogenic C-41) Print Film (ISO-400):

As someone who has been shooting and developing his own film since 1967 and then, because of a move, lost his darkroom, this Ilford film has been a Godsend. It enables me to continue shooting in B&W and use my trusty old camera. I get it developed at the local [...]- and scanned, too, so I have the image in my computer, as well. And the results are, to my eye, superior to what's possible with a digital camera - rich blacks, sharp edges, great tonal quality. And as soon as I resurrect my darkroom, I will have some great negs to print.

i use this product for my black and white photography class, which includes darkroom instruction. we just started, and he said to shoot on this film and then we'll enlarge in the darkroom after it's processed in a lab. it's processed with colour film technology, so the quality is great.

Great for scanning, wide dynamic range, minimal grain. I received high resoloution scans from a film lab, and the results were stunning to say the least. I was hesitant at first since this is a chromogenic film, but it's now my favorite 400 ISO B&W film.

I have used this film since it first was available. I shoot only 35mm (Canon AE-1 Program). I do mostly street photography. This film works great under all lighting conditions.

I use B&W for some of my art work, as well as a lot of my outdoor work. I have tried a number of C-41 B&W films, but I do like the quality of the Ilford best. The detail and grain is perfect for a varity of different uses.
