Got this for a mid-size bag that could hold a body + a few lenses. It definitely needs an insert. Together with the Pro Digital 2.0 Photo Insert by Tenba (from B&H) they make a perfect low profile camera messenger bag. Classic Domke - good construction, understyled look, plenty of pockets. Fantastic combination.

Comments about Domke F-802 Reporter's Satchel Shoulder Bag (Black):
Ive had this bag for six years and its been extremely reliable. I now do not use the bag very often because of its small size, as Ive upgraded to larger bags because of the increasing quantity of equipment I carry.
Pros:
The discreteness of the bag is wonderful, the buckle strap is not as loud as a velcro closure allowing for the taking out of a camera without drawing any undue attention. I didnt like the clip closure at first but I got used to it and prefer it now.
Ive travelled around the world with my camera equipment in this bag successfully keeping a low profile. Ive even been held up at gunpoint with this bag fully loaded with camera gear and the perpetrator didnt even look twice at my bag.
Extremely durable!
Ive also been able to put a Panasonic 200b video camera into the bag while filming in a very dangerous area.
Cons:
(Not really a con but a consideration) Size. It does its job for its size. I think the most I got from the main compartment was a D70s with stock lens, a tamron 70-200, and a sb800...which is more than enough for a day long shoot.
After some time the latch on the bag strap gave out (particularly the mechanical spring inside the buckle latch...but this was after a lot of use). The color of the canvas parts of the bag (as I got the ballastic nylon bag) started fading and every so often I thrown some liquid shoe polish on it.
I would recommend this bag to someone else, I just wish they would make the same bag a bit larger!

Well made and durable bag - will fit two bodies with fitted lenses and a further lens, cleaning gear/filters/flash etc.. This product does not come with a protective insert and the Domke ones are an awkward size but I bought the Tenba PHOTO INSERT f/PRO DIGITAL 2.0 and it fits perfectly..

Was looking for a bag to carry my 5D Mk II, EF 24-70mm, EF 70-200mm IS II without screeming "Expensive".. I found it in this bag. Will also take my laptop if I am travelling light with the camera and the 24-70mm. That's all without loading the side pockets !

I like this product, but wish it had a few changes. The hand strap is too short to go over the handle of my roller computer bag.
I wish there was a section to be used as a briefcase in addition to cameras.
Overall nice product, good quality.

Comments about Domke F-802 Reporter's Satchel Shoulder Bag (Black):
This is an excellent camera bag. I am not a professional photographer and enjoy being able to use the bag without "trying" to look like one. I have read some complaints about the lack of cushion on this bag. There certainly is not much (only on the bottom) but the material is durable enough that it will protect the camera provided your not running it into walls. You could aways buy a smaller protective case to put the camera in if you need. Love the bag, love the size and room of all the pockets. I have no complaints.

I use this bag primarily as a travel brief case. It holds a 15" laptop and whatever else I might need instant access to. It's design is simple and straight forward making it a very functional and easy to use bag.

I'm a briefcase freak. I've owned them all: leather, ballistic nylon, canvas, metal, you name it. I'm tough on them. I'm a videographer and I carry everything from client files to tapes to disc drives to binoculars, along with notebooks, pens and pencils, pocket knife and flash light, keys, appointment book, phone, etc. I had literally worn out my old briefcase (rips, fading buckles)and looked a long time before I found out Domke makes a bag like this. I own three Domke vests and a camera bag (also tough). I looked at it online and was attracted to the simple, classy look and the degree of enclosure and protection. It delivers what it promises: I'd carry a camcorder or DSLR in it without a worry, take it on a plane, you name it. It's very roomy and the design of the pockets is brilliant: flat pockets (pens, flash drives, pocket knife, keys) on the flap hold a lot but don't add bulk; the two covered pockets under the flap are incredibly roomy; the padded interior space holds a lot of stuff, and there's a smaller, full-width pocket in front of that that's perfect for files. Add to that a slip pocket on the back and the best strap I've ever encountered. It simply won't slip off your shoulder. Only one caution: if you're one of those folks who don't get attached to something like your briefcase or who don't mind one wearing out in several months (so you can replace it), buy something else. This one will last for years. This is a thick, tough, well-sewn canvas number you could leave to one of your kids. And for the price, you get high-quality construction and a look people will comment on.

I like to carry an slr body, zoom lens and flash with me just in case an opportunity arises. This bag holds them all easily without looking like a wannabe photojournalist. There are plenty of pockets for my laptop, a planner, phones and other daily essentials. Last but not least, the materials and construction are what you expect from Domke - built to last. My F-2 bag is 23 years old and will serve the next generation and I know this one will be an heirloom as well.

I'm a student and I use this to carry my laptop and books most days. The bag does great with the weight of a big textbook. I'm also a photography enthusiast and I carry my D80 in it often. The strap is amazing, if you haven't had a Domke strap before, it's hard not to love. The rubber grip thread is great.Pockets on this thing are great. Two giant velcro flap pockets, an inside pocket for your laptop, and an outside pocket that I keep a legal pad in. There are two zipper pockets in the primary flap that are flat and work great for maybe your passport, or memory cards if you have a whole bunch. There's also the main compartment that shouldn't be ignored. I like how it has the durable padding that's just perfectly sufficient for camera/laptop protection in my opinion. This is where you'll likely have to store your SLR if you have a lens on it. Though, I did managed to stuff my D80+50mm f1.8 in the velcro pocket amazingly. I put in the accessory suggestions that you might want the FA-230 insert, this is because stuff in the main compartment will roll around unless you have enough fill in the main compartment. I usually just put a book of the right size there to keep my D80+18-135mm f3.5 from falling over, as I do not have the insert. You might want the insert if you have many lenses and only want to carry your camera and lenses in this bag. Most lenses will fit nicely in the velcro pockets though. This thing handles wear very well. You can tell when you've had it a while, but it's quite a fine aging process. It actually looks good when it's used!Lastly, my laptop is an ultralight so if you're wondering about laptop size issues, I can't help too much with facts. Mine is 12", but in my opinion this bag would probably be able to fit a 17" laptop, anything smaller would definitely fit. Please let me know if you have any questions. This is my first Domke bag and I really think it's great![@]

I own both that 802 and the 803.
The 802 is a larger version of the 803. Even though the 802 isn't as discreet as the 803 it still blends in pretty well and has quite a bit more room in it.
If you are using large 2.8 zooms I suggest the 802 however if you are not you can get away with the 803.
Currently in my 802 are: D3 with 50mm 1.4 mounted, 70-200mm 2.8, 17-35mm 2.8, SB-800, spare batteries and a couple unused pockets to spare.
Best of all it doesn't scream "camera bag!". Even my friends ask me if I got a new laptop bag. Which is exactly why I bought it.
