Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Comments about Canon EW-75 II Lens Hood:
Great lens hood. Fits perfect on my Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens. Just like everyone else I just wish the lens hood would be included with the lens, but unfortunately its not. so you have to purchase it. Fits great, easy, useful. Bottom line, I would pick one up asap if you shoot in broad daylight a lot.

Comments about Canon EW-75 II Lens Hood:
This is a must for the 20mm 2.8 canon lens
Very easy to mount on lens, nice twist and lock feature.
One down point that it is plastic, metal would be more durable, thought for the cost it would be made of metal?

Comments about Canon EW-75 II Lens Hood:
As with all my wide angle lenses, I consider a hood to be a must. However, I wish the EW-75II would stay on better, especially for being such a pricey little thing! It doesn't do much to "lock" into place as my other hoods do. I am already on my second one after losing it while shooting at a recent event. Go ahead a grab it as it serves its function well, but be sure to keep a constant eye on it!

Comments about Canon EW-75 II Lens Hood:
As a Skydiving Photographer I don't get the luxery of 'setting up' a shot with good sun angles, and I sometimes shoot at very high angles, so glare can become quite an issue. This is especially true when you shoot with a wide angle lens, and an image sensor that is 1:1.6.
The lens hood gives you piece of mind, knowing that you won't get a 'flare' across that once in a lifetime shot.

Comments about Canon EW-75 II Lens Hood:
I really needed a hood for my Canon 20/2.8, and there didn't seem to be any other choice other than this model. I rated this hood lower, since its not as easy to mount as my Sigma hoods on Sigma lenses. And of course the price is way too much for this bit of plastic!
