The lens hood fits my 50mm 1.4 perfectly and for the price I'm glad. It never leaves my lens and has protected the front element and any filters more than once.
Solid and light construction and felt lined. Reversible for storage but I find I like it in the normal position as it does a great job of protecting the focusing elements and any filters. I wish there was a flower options but the tube design works great. Significantly cut down any unwanted flare and doesn't get in the way of my flash. And there's just enough room to adjust a filter with the hood on. Plus it just make the 50mm 1.4 look that much cooler!

I buy and use lens hoods for every lens whenever possible, and I'm big believer in them. I purchased this for my Canon 50mm EF f/1.4. I'm not thrilled with the fit. It's fine when used as a shade, but you can also reverse it and use it as a protective cover for the lens barrel. In the reversed position, I find it very difficult to attach. I have not had a problem reverse-attaching other Canon hoods.
Also it's made of plastic and it's not quite as rigid as I would like. Considering the price, it seems like this hood could be better.
If I had to do it over, I'd consider a less-expensive non-Canon hood, just to see if the reverse fit were better.

Comments about Canon ES-71II Lens Hood for EF 50mm f/1.4 Lens:
Who would not use a lens hood if they knew anything about photography? So why does Canon insist on nickle and diming us with selling this separately. Most other major suppliers include the lens hood. Come on Canon, get with the program! I changed from Nikon years ago for a similar reason to this. Hope that Canon gets the message as I don't want to have to switch all my lenses and cameras to Nikon.

Does the job, but a bit akward getting the hood on and off and reversing it on the lens for storage.

Comments about Canon ES-71II Lens Hood for EF 50mm f/1.4 Lens:
This Canon hood does what it should. It takes a little jiggle to get it on properly, maybe just some getting used to. Light weight but seems sturdy. Wonder if long term the dark flocking will come off but it is too early to tell. The competitor's hood has a matte finish which won't come off. This hood came with free shipping so even if I wanted the competitor's hood I would only have saved about $10 and I didn't think it was worth it in this case.

Comments about Canon ES-71II Lens Hood for EF 50mm f/1.4 Lens:
This lens hood by Canon for their EF 50MM f1.4USM lens is a must have. It is of the same quality that came with my L series lenses. Great build quality. Great fit. Had an anti-reflective felt-like material on the inside surfaces.
If your are purchasing the Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM lens buy this with it. You are going to want it!

Fits tight, and locks in place. Hood is just the right size to not get in the way.
Sturdy plastic protects the lens well.

Comments about Canon ES-71II Lens Hood for EF 50mm f/1.4 Lens:
The build quality of this hood is alright, but certainly not superior as are the hoods for L series lenses. The plastic is flimsier than the L series hoods, and can be easily squeezed between my fingers. In addition, while the hood uses the same twist-on mechanism of the L series hoods, it doesn't twist on as easily as the higher end ones do. Putting it on reversed is actually pretty difficult to do compared to L series hoods. In my opinion, I feel that it is pretty overpriced for what you get, but the extra protection you gain for the lens is worth it anyway.

This hood fits the 50mm 1.4 EF lens, but does not offer the depth of,say, the hood that fits the 85mm 1.8 EF lens. It does the job it is designed to do.

A very essential tool for your lens. I usually prefer to have a hood on all my lenses on all times. Gives good colors and contrasts to images by preventing most of stray light that might enter.

I use this to prevent glare and lens flare. Also to protect my lens in case it is dropped. I just thought that I had to buy a canon hood for canon lens. But I think it is bit too pricey for the quality you get.
