Comments about Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphone:
This is a great small headphone monitor. I will probably use it for mixing sound while travelling. It has good low end and mid is not too high. It's very comfortable to wear and does not fall off. It has metal "band" not plastic. I wish it is collapsible like sony. The cable is very long and could be annoying.

Comments about Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphone:
I bought these for my wife who complained about my heavy studio headphones and who won't wear earbuds. She says these are very light and she can now hear the louder environmental sounds that she can't with the closed ear design.
So I guess I'll rate this product 5 stars! Happy Wife, Happy Life!
My own opinion is that too much is lost with the semi-closed design for accurate audio work, however these cans are very comfortable.
I would not call the padding excessive, but the headphones clamp down so well on my head that they will not dislodge even when trying to shake them off. That property rates highly with me. I can't keep my earbuds in my ears and I think that heavy cans give me a headache after a few hours.
So my final analysis is that the Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphones are a hybrid somewhere between earbuds and closed ear design headphones. They would have been great at my last job, where I could listen to the radio or whatever on my headphones, but I had to listen if someone (like my boss) called my name. I'm going for comfort and convenience here, not pristine audio quality. Again, with that in mind, 5 stars.

Comments about Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphone:
I was a little surprised when I received these headphones and used them for the first time. The sound was very different compared to my old Sony MDR200. With these, you can hear every instrument and every sound so clearly, it's almost jarring. I guess my ears were so used to listening to distorted music. I'm not an expert on audio, but I enjoy listening to music, and I wasn't sure if I liked them. After 2 weeks, I don't think I can go back to my old headphones. And for this price, it's an amazing product.

Very nice sounding headphones. These are semi open so the sound is very good. The sound is crisp, clear and has good bass response but I still prefer Grados over these but you can't go wrong for the price. I recommend these for anyone because for the price you will not find a better sounding headphone than these.

I'm a musician and I use these for learning songs and mixing in my studio. I read the previous reviews and bought them on those recommendations. I'm extremely pleased. Even, balanced, non-fatiguing sound. Great highs and lows that are better than should be expected form small format headphones. Oh and great price!

Great value - nicely priced, excellent quality, and lightly sits on your head and ears. Very comfortable, you can wear these for hours without noticing. Note that these monitor headphones do not block out all outside noise ... which is a benefit also!
I use these for listening to podcasts and music on my laptop and mp3 player.

Comments about Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphone:
These are a very good value in small, portable-ish headphones. I prefer these to both the Denon ah-d1001 and the ATH-ES7. They are a bit dark (highs not super extended) but, that said, the mids are good, the bass is great, and they are not fatiguing at all. They are also easy to mod if that's your game. I added a bit of damping to reign in the bass a bit (still has lots) and recabled with spc. They are fine from a portable but do benefit from amplification. With a mini^3 they are fantastic.

Comments about Yamaha RH5Ma Supra-Aural Semi-Closed Stereo Professional Monitor Headphone:
I work in broadcasting and have used headphones daily for 30 years. About 15 years ago, I needed a new pair for work and the sound engineer recommended these as the truest sound of any headphone. He was right. When that first pair finally wore out, I had to get the exact replacement. Thankfully B&H has them. I will never use another pair.
