The best photographs are often the ones you never saw coming. Because there is so little warning, you need a film that can handle a wide variety of available light and motion, indoors or out, without losing subtleties in color, sharpness, and skin tone. Kodak Professional Portra 400-speed films give you that flexibility. You can freeze the action, stop down for extra depth of field, or pick up added detail in shadow areas.
In addition to all the benefits of a faster speed, you also get strikingly fine grain. So you can shoot with confidence whether you choose Portra film NC for natural color or Portra 400VC film for vivid color.

I have been using this film for several years. I use a 28-300mm Sigma lens. The speed lets me get great pictures under many conditions. Since the bulk of my picturetaking in of my grandchildren, ages 1 month to 13 years, the speed lets me capture them at play. If you want to learn how to shoot on the go and get great shots, follow two, three, four, and five year olds around. One thing I like about film it teaches you to think as you shoot not like the digital shooters that shoot 3 or four hundred pictures and then pick out a good shot. I rely on the quality of Kodak film and have been disapointed by other brands. The colors are true to life and the film picks up all the nuances of the colors. I do not like to use anything else and do not if I can help it. For weddings and outdoor scenery it is the best.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
I first purchased this film as a random film to experiment with. I did not realize how amazing the colors would be. I love it! The color is so rich. Nice on skin tone as well. I tend to desaturate my photos a lot but this is a nice change.

I love the look of Portra in general and the VC gives me the right amount of saturation without being overly done. I prefer this for landscapes over any other.

This is the best film that I have ever used. I have used it for years. Digital can not compare to the color of the skintones. My customers are always very satisfied with their wedding photos.

ALWAYS DID LIKE THE VERICOLOR FILMS FROM KODAK. THESE PORTRA FILMS THAT REPLACED VERICOLOR DO NOT MATCH THE COLOR ACCURACY THAT I EXPERIENCED WITH VERICOLOR I, II AND III. BUT THATS THE WAY IT GOES.

It's a shame kodak is doing away with the vc and nc stocks, less options for working artists
i usually use the vc when i am working outdoors, in natural light, sometimes it gets used under my hot lights, if i need a warm and contrasty look, but usually go for the NC so as not to over do things

I'm not a big fan of color print film -- preferring B&W film and in color, either chrome or digital -- but this is a new step up for a print film at this speed, almost the equal of Ektar 100 in color saturation.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
This is one of my favorite and most used films. Slightly more grainy (which I like) than Ektar 100 or 160VC, this film has great color saturation and sharpness.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
Accurate, unexaggerated color rendering, including skin tones. Film produces a slightly enhanced contrast which I found pleasing. Unobtrusive grain with correct exposure. Film gives a good tonal range.
Have not printed from negative, these observations refer to scans only.
A very good product that I will use again.

Comments about Kodak Portra-400VC 135-36 Professional Color Print Film (ISO-400):
I use this film for shooting middle school soccer (outdoors), volleyball, and girls and boys basketball (indoors). Cameras used: F-100 and F6. Both are superb. Lenses used: soccer: Nikon 300mm f/4 with or without TC-14IIE, indoors: 135mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.4. I shoot indoors with the camera on manual so that the film is exposed with just one f stop of light added to the room light by my SB50DX flash. The colors are superb, the flash is not intense enough to affect the players, the film is fast enough to use 1/200 or 1/250 second on either camera. This is a so much better film than the Kodak Gold 200. (For slides, I use Velvia 100 shot at ISO 125.)

This film stock is unparalleled by any other stock i have ever used. Sharp, consistent, and "vivid".However, I do miss the recently discontinued Kodak UC (Ultra Color). My only complaint about this stock is that is no longer available in 35mm, 50ft or 100ft rolls. However, the Kodak NC is available in 50-100ft. rolls. [...] Come on, Kodak! What gives? Maybe they are banking on the popularity of the VC stock, assuming we'll all bite the proverbial bullet and pay the extra cost of individual rolls. Well, maybe they're right, but I for one am not happy about it.

I was using 120 format VC when I was shooting weddings the day this film was introduced. It was great. Now I'm using it for myself and its still great film.
