I have found the Domke PhotTOGS vest to be a way for me to carry the gear I need for most any assignment I go out on. I work for a small town newspaper an cover a great many different kind of event from commission meeting to high school and college sport and a NASCAR race or two. The Domke vest allows me to carry what I need for my sssignments, its light weight and light to wear. The vented back keep me cool on the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway or during any hot weather job I have to shoot. In winter it fits over a sweeter or light jacket and the multitude of pocket means I've got everything I need. I have both colors and use the black one for more formal events. They are very durable. This one replaces one I'd had for more than three years and I'd still be using it if I hadn't ripped an outer pocket off ( I was moving pretty fast) on a stair case railing. My advice, BUY ONE, you'll wish you had done it sooner

This is my 4th or 5th Domke vest since 1986. I work my vests hard until they are completely worn out and in shreds. This is the first time I've seen design changes in the classic vest, and I'm not happy. The new vest is not as pictured. It has fewer and different size pockets, less mesh, and no quilted padding across the shoulders. In the digital photography era, we need more secure zipper pockets for small memory cards and expensive batteries, not less. That is my biggest complaint. I also miss having pen slots on the upper chest pocket. The large flapped back pockets are an improvement over the older design, I think, and I'm neutral regarding the larger lower front pockets. Overall, I'm disappointed in the design changes but concede that it is still probably the best hot weather photo vest on the market. But why mess with a classic?

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
I've only had this for a few days and haven't had a chance to wear it in the field yet. But it appears to be very well constructed and has a good fit. I have a 42 inch chest and ordered large. Turns out to be a good fit. Over my shirt, it sits comfortably and has ability to be adjusted OUT for use with a jacket or sweater. There are lots of pockets to organize and use. The zipper seems to be of heavy construction and all seams well stitched together. I like that it hangs a bit on the "heavy" side so it doesn't cling to my clothing or ride upwards on my body YET it doesn't feel so heavy that I feel weighted down. I think it's a perfect fit and a well thought out design. I've grown tired of lugging my equipment in a backpack and it seems like this vest will do all that I want.

I switched from using a backpack to putting everything in the vest. Everything is balanced on my body. The mesh top keeps me cool in the hot weather. It is big enough to wear over my winter clothing.

I'm a professional photojournalist (still). I wear a vest in lieu of carrying a bag so I wear it filled with gear 40 or more hours a week.
This vest has several big pockets that will easily hold a medium tele-zoom lens but none of the pockets are padded for protection.
The last one of these I had wore out in less than one year--This one has a two year warranty.

A vest designed for real photographers, pockets to hold 70-200 F2.8 zoom,16-35 F2.8 zoom ,fast wide angles, flash ,reporter tablet and programs or team line-ups,rain gear just about any thing you need in the field or on assignment it works better for me then working out of camera bag or pouches ,the pockets keep shape because of the elastic in the opening ,the inside pockets are large and can hold lens of the 300mm f4 size and full size programs with ot folding them ,the vest holds up to every day use and can last for years this is my 4th Domke vest of the 6 I've owned over 30 years of shooting there is nothing as good as the Domke, the minor changes to the vest don't make any real differance in the proformance of this vest,it was great when it first came out and its great now for the digital photographer as well as anyone still using film bottom line is you can't go wrong owning a Domke Vest

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
Great for when I want to travel light (without a photo backpack) when chasing down wildflowers and fungi, which usually involves a lot of walking.
It's a bit heavier (and hence warmer) than I expected, but then I suppose it has to be in order to have the strength to carry heavy gear. I do most of my photography in the cooler months, so its weight/warmth should not be a real problem.
It's very stylish and I'm delighted with it.

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
I love my vest for shooting news, when I have to be self contained for an entire day and don't want to drag a bag around.
The interior bottom pockets can hold an 80-200 2.8, outside bottom pockets hold wide angle zooms and all the other little pockets hold everything else. Camera is around my neck or in my hand where it belongs if you want to catch the really good images.
This is my second vest. Wore the first one out. Patched it and wore it out again. I got about 10 years out of the first one though.

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
This vest has a lot of pockets which five of them are very large. Large enough to actually carry camera bodies minus the lenses.
I would rather see zippers instead of velcro to secure the pockets. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
This photo vest is very well made, with sturdy pockets, and lots of them, with different sizes and closures to suit any needs. I've only used it a couple times so far, but it certainly beats lugging around a large case, and leaves my hands free to take the photos without worrying about where my accessories are.

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
I bought this vest to use while out shooting photos in all places. I had been using a camera bag and while changing lenses I dropped my camera and the zoom lens broke in two. After using this vest while shooting at a flight demo of a P51 Mustang, I will never go back to the bag while out shooting.
The lenses are close at hand and easy to grab and swap out.
The only drawback is being careful when taking the vest off so the lenses do not bang into something. That will just take some getting used to.

Comments about Domke Photogs Vest (Large, Khaki):
I kept looking for the perfect bag to carry my cameras and gear, Sorry, but no such thing. My solution was a combination of a good vest for gear and the Cotton Carrier for my cameras. With the vest, everything is easily accessable and the weight is evenly distributable. I went with the khaki color instead of the black because I live in Florida. Nuff said. It is comfortable because the weight is on both shoulders as opposed to a strap hanging on one shoulder.
